ive just bougth a 172 cup

  172 cup
I never thought i would but ive just bought a french car and my first drive home was over the cat and fiddle :D
I was concerned that i was buying french but by the time i got home i was impressed and now i think im falling for it.

i wish i knew if all the noises it makes are usual for a low millage car, theres a whine from the front drivers side and a noise coming from the gearlever which sounds like blowing air which i assume is just transmition noise. i only notice them when the radio is off and im listening carefully, it also comes with a couple of rattles but is not as bad as i thought

its due new tyres as the fronts are very nearly illegal with slightly uneven wear (more wear on the outside edge) is this normal? and am i right in thinking the michelin exhaltos are the best suited as a replacement?

ive heard verying reports on the cup (some scare mongering) am i right in thinking they are fairly fogiving if you drive smothly, but it will bite if you drive erratically?

are their any good garages in cheshire that will take care of it?

Wear on the outside, especially the nearside, is totally normal. It should only really be the last 10% though, otherwise it should be failry even. I've started wearing the sidewall writing off my nearside front

If it's been used on track then I guess both fronts would be fooked on the outside edge?

That's normal for a car that has been cornered hard ;) I would recommended F1 GSD3's, but tyre choice is a matter of preference, it's just my preference is better than others :) lol.

It's easy to drive it normally day to day, if you can resist putting your foot down. The handaling is very predictable, and you can feel the car oversteering etc, and it's not snappy at all imo.

PS. Nice choice of car :)

Nice choice of car. I have one aswell, but please upgrade the standard brakes cos they are crap. Go for (Ferodo DS2500 Pads, Brembo HC Discs, and Goodridge Braided Lines) Yozzasport and GDI do this setup.

Standard brakes are very good for the car imo; and are more than capable for Road driving.

But I do agree it's a place were you can't spend enough money.

^^^ your right. Its the most important thing on a car for me tbh. then tyres (michelin Pilots are excellent but are like £100 each!)

i cant decide if its been driven hard or not, if i believe the 1st owner it's still on its origanal conti's which would indicate a fairly easy life, which also means i need to get the tracking done

as for tyres, my top choice has always been the bridgestone potenzas but you cant get them in cup sizes and the michalins annoy me because i find they usually look brown because they last so long so i may well go for the eagles althought they arn't as good as the hype sugests.

i will probably do something with the brakes when it is time to replace them but i find the cup brakes better than the other hot clios ive driven

the cars hadling in the dry seems very composed (im a bit worried that the hadling limits are only aproached at silly speeds)

and in the wet with very poor tyres it seems forgiviing

im glad i didnt buy the lupo as im really liking my clio

ive just worked out my fuel comsumption, not as good as the indicated 37.5 mpg but im happy with 35 but its going to get werse

Stock brakes are very good realy they just need bleeding and some care to be taken.
