My b*****d 3GS is only do-able if I do the tethered jb. Fingers crossed it'll be cracked eventually. Sorta missing the 3g now.

What what week did they change the boot so it wasn't possible on the 3GS?

Since my iPwn 3G is out of warranty I was going to jailbreak it, however Redsnow won't run on my mac? I just get a "The application redsn0w quit unexpectedly."

EDIT: Tried a different download link to the one you posted, and it runs, just downlouding the ispw now <3.

Blackra1n is much better and simpler and quicker, even though Tom will tell you otherwise. I asked on another forum (where they know about it not just guess) and they said blackra1n is safer.

I jailbroke a friends iPhone 2G for her using blackrain before and it worked great so I've used it now. I've got to that stage with this phone where i think f**k it if it dies I'll be upgrading in a few months.

Connect phone > go to blackra1n > click button > iphone jailbroken.

It's easier than having a w**k.

Personally i haven't used either method. I prefer the custom generated IPSW's from Pwnage Tool. I only know what i know and i know i have had to fix at least 20 iPhones jailbroken using Blackra1n. (No wifi/Call connection issues/SMS issues) So use it at your own risk.

Most of Blackra1ns issues come when Snow is installed, stick to Cydia and you are fine.

Only problem I had was when i did the jailbreak and unlock with a Vodafone sim in an o2 phone. I couldn't get push notifications on Facebook etc. Stuck an o2 sim card in and redid it and unlocked it and have had no issues since.

OK here's a quick one.

My phone ran out of battery last night, so woke up this morning and it now needs to be Blackrain'd again. Is this going to happen everytime I switch the phone off?? As that's going to be a real bore

OK FYI guys, you need iTunes on your computer to tell you that it has discovered an iPhone in "recovery mode" when using Blackrain.

Downloaded BR on the work computer, but just didn't work. Downloaded and installed iTunes and it now works.

i stopped using winterboard as i found that was what made everything slow down when closing programs and etc, i use bosspaper now instead and all is fine

Made my 3G run slowly, so removed it. Not noticed a difference on the S, but may just be because of the quicker speeds of the S.

Anyone noticed how much less available memory (RAM) the 3G has compared to the 3GS? My mates 3G had 12MB whilst my 3GS had 151MB lol

12mb means he was running about 50 apps. Mine use to go down to about 25, then cleared it to 46.

Although I will agree, 3GS is a big increase!!

WARNING! At 10.30AM PST on February 2nd 2010 Apple released the 3.1.3 version (7E18) of the iPhoneOS.

If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.

PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.3
There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).

Update 1: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Thanks to daring experimenters in the comments, we can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3. So far we’ve only confirmed this for iPhone 2G. (Note that if this does work for iPhone 3G too, you can *only* use it if you don’t care about the unlock.)

Update 2: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too. Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!). For older iPod touch 2G, we’ll need a small (1-character) change in redsn0w source.

So there you go.

Blackra1n is a total no no for 3.1.3 (Currently, unless george gets bored with pissing sony off)

Sooo does that mean you can successfully jailbreak 3.1.2 now??

I currently have mine at 3.1 at the momento (was 3.0 for ages but I had issues not being able to run certain apps )

Redid mine by using the custom firmware way (restore with custom firmware via Itunes)

Interested in Jailbreaking my iPhone, I ain't too clued up on it all though tbh, but I have a few good resources to use for guides etc, thing is I have an updated iPhone 3GS running 3.1.3 with Baseband 05.12.01, Now what I don't seem to understand too well is what I can and can not do.. Baseband is AFAIK the part of the software that needs to be unlocked to use other sim cards in your iPhone, I am not interested in this due to having a contract with Vodafone and I don't want to use other sim cards, so am I still able to jailbreak my phone with say sn0wbreeze without unlocking it? If anyone can answer that I would be greatful as there seems to be a lot of you that understand this a lot more then I do from just reading through countless websites with every one interested more in unlocking the Baseband more then the Jaibreak! Thanks people!

iBlueNova! A must have app from Cydia. It gives you full Bluetooth functionality on your iPhone. Send and receive any music, video, pictures etc. It is a paid app but worth it if you need the functionilty IMHO.
