Just driven a MK1 172!

Holy crap!

Well impressed. With me, Ellen and the bloke who was selling it in the car, it really really mooooooved! Didnt even go above 5500rpm, but theres a really exciting feeling of coming "on-cam" that I just dont get in the Williams. The clutch and the steering felt waaaaay too light compared to the Willy, and I didnt get to give it any stick round twisty roads, but feck yeah! I want one. I mean Ellen wants one .

Thought the interior was a bit "plasticky" compared to the MK2 that I had and there were some very dubious stains on the seats (although I dont think that they come as standard). Va va voom.....indeed.....velly good meester bond.....

tell me about it, went for a test drive the other day(mk1 also) with me, my brother and the salesman, and boy did it shift, and the salesman didnt seem to mind when i boot it either :)

Monk, is your brother the lad with the yellow megane who was very excited about putting it on the rollers at RE in Bury last summer?

lol, yeah....

- "IS IT MY GO YET, IS IT MY GO YET?????"

- "no.....about another 5 hours yet....."

-"Oh right.....IS IT MY GO YET?"

Heheheh.....whats he getting?

Ahh, another convert to the way of Mk1 :)

Ive always heard people saying the Mk1 has something the Mk2 lacks and that is...as you said...Va Va Voom

ps. Clutch? Light??? WTF? the Mk1 clutch is the heaviest Ive ever felt

LOL! No way, the Williams is like the Valver. My left leg is three times the size of my right due to the immense amount of excercise it gets with that sodding clutch. Traffic jams are a b*****d in the Willy.

hrmm.

Never driven a Willy or a Valver (we never got them over here)

Just glad you liked the mk1...they may be rattley but they do go well.

Im just back from dropping the girlfriend at home and despite the outside temp being 4 degrees C, I had the windows open so I could hear the engine growl the whole way home

LOL, even i would say the clutch is light compared to a valver!!

Glad to see some other peeps like the MK1, true the interior is a bit flash and not quite as racey as the MK2 but u cant have every thing i guess. although less rattles would be nice, LMAO :D

Wonder if Ill be the first Cliosport member to a) own a 172 and Williams at the same time and b)to have had a Williams, MK1 172 and MK2 172?! Wow, what a claim!

I dont have the MK2 172 any more :-( Dont think anyone would insure us on a V6. Bugger. Couldnt afford one anyway.

Difference strengths, different weaknesses. Diplomatic answer but its true. Williams seems to handle better as standard and the 172 seems quicker as standard. Which would I rather drive? Both, which is convenient :D.
