Good News...
I finally got all the parts for my brakes back from the powder coaters and they look better than new. The only downside was is that they had painted areas i asked them not too and the rear callipers where covered in a sticky residue from the masking tape when they were bead blasterd. After a good scrub with some warm water and degreaser it soon came off. I dropped the brake components off to the powder coaters in labelled bags so I knew exactly what corner of the car they came from. The powder coaters decided to make my life that bit more harder and give them to me all in one bag. My mechanic arrived this morning and we began installing my new big brake upgrade.
The front drivers side
The rear drivers side
As the powder coaters painted the areas of the callipers that brake pads use to move, the new pads would not fit in, I had to file off the paint back to bare metal to allow the pads to move once more in these areas. Despite filing off the paint on the front callipers, the pads would still not fit in nicely. I then had to file a little off the slider to get a snug fit that woud allow the pads to move when I brake. I copper slipped a few areas to ensure the moving parts stay moving for years to come.
After the installation was complete, we then bagan to bleed the system. We bled each corner twice to ensure we got all the air out of the system and a firm pedal. I had previoulsy drained down the entire brake system using the brake pedal to force it out and to my surprise I only used under a 1 litre of my new brake fluid to bleed the system and top it back up to maximum. After a check for leaks and checked the hand brake and brakes were clapping on, I then finally got my refubed F1ns on with the T1R's.
As the car had been on axle stands for just over 3 weeks, I was wondering wether or not the ole girl would kick into life. To my surprise she fired up after the first turn on the key.
I took the car for a drive to see if the brakes were all okay, and everything seems okay but the brake pedal did not seem as firm as I previously remember. It might just be me as I havent drove it for so long or the fact everytings new. My mechanic told me to take it easy for a bit to allow the brakes to bed in. If the pedal doesnt feel a bit more responsive in a month or so I will have a look at bleeding it again, however we thoroughly bled and rebled the system so it would surprise me.
Next up is to get the roof resprayed by the bodyshop who done it previously as there is some kind of reaction taking place underneath the paint.
I then would like to get the aero catches fitted by the other bodyshop who said they can rescue my bonnet and remove the pins I currently have, I would like to make it to CSS but it might not be ready...fingers crossed
