I've been mildly interested in having the Clio weighed, i'm not chasing figures just curious. So, as there's a scrap merchants round the corner from me i popped down there. Weights below copy and pasted from another thread on this forum.

MK1 172 - 1035kg
Mk2 172 - 1110kg
172 Cup - 1011kg
182 - 1110kg
182 Cup - 1090kg
182 Trophy - 1075kg

White Clio 172 - 960kg

If i were chasing figures there are a few places and items i could go for and have done, lighter wheels, cage out, drill holes in the bumpers, remove plastic blocks etc from bumpers, cut weight out the doors tailgate etc, lighter seats. There's probably more but i'm happy with how the Clio is....

Regarding cage, if i were to take it out it would make the Clio in the region of 70kgs lighter than the cup model. Strip 70kgs out of the cup model still using 2 seats and harnesses, would be interesting....

How much petrol in the tank Rich? After seeing it last weekend I am actually surprised it's not lighter although that cage is substantial! Makes a healthy bhp/T as it is I guess!

I'll look into having it weighed somewhere else just to see, it was a round 960 which i thought interesting, not like 961 or 958... who knows whether a figure was rounded up. on the Phs1 Clio petrol gauge it was on the last 'dot' not on the red. I don't know how many litres are left in the tank when the petrol light comes on, maybe 10 litres? if so maybe 15-20 left litres in the tank?

even with the cage, I would expect it to be slightly less. Especially with a nearly empty tank. I'm sure it still shifts though mate ;)

It feels good, i wasn't sure what to expect weight wise so this figure (if correct) gives me something to work on if needs be.

I wouldn't mind working out the bhp/tonne, weight loss to bhp equivalent

Hmm yeah I guess that's quite a complex cage !!

Fuel hardly weighs anyway - a full 50l tank is only 37.5kg (Petrol is 0.75kg/litre)

Working out !?

172/0.96 = 179.166 bhp/ton

T'ain't rocket science chap ! :rasp:

Have you driven a Ph2 yet !?

That's pretty good mate 960kg, when I had mine weighed it came in at 1094kg and that was a full fat 172 with 3/4 tank :)

Ok, so based on that figure and multiplying by 1.08 that gives me 193.4bhp based on the workings out on this previou thread i dug out on Cliosport. Is that correct? i knew you'd work it out Rob :D

Wut ?

Power to weight is simply the max power out, divided by the weight.

If the car weighs 1 tonne (1000kg) and has a max power output of 172bhp, it has a 172bhp/tonne power to weight ratio. If it weighs 600kg and has 120hp, it has 200bhp/tonne.

You don't get more power by losing weight... it is what it is.

Not too bad. Does yours still have air-con? Poly carbs take a fair chunk out too don't forget..

Will get mine on the weigh bridge at work when I get it back :)

What was the chap working out in that thread?? I get the power to weight, why has it been multiplied by 1.08 to give him a different BHP? I'm assuming he's working out the equivalent total weight loss can equate to something different

No air con, i'm using the Clio Cup alternator setup too. Polycarbs is an option when i have funds

I think I understand what he's doing, trying work back to what you'd have to gain in power but stay the same weight, but I can't see the point TBH...

Just don't worry about it haha !

I think ours was about 850k with cage and 1/4 tank of fuel

Thats some weight loss! I did wonder whether the weight they gave me was when i drove it on the weighbridge with me in it! The office is right next to the bridge, she gave me the weight as soon as i asked. No harm in going somewhere else for a 2nd opinion.

There is more weight to come off if i really wanted to go for it then if 850 is there :D

If imagine that some scrappys would "alter" the scales to give a lower reading for when they are buying scrap so they pay less (I may be wrong, just a thought)
