Just test drove a Cup

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

Only went for a gander but ended up having a test drive and having the saleman turning the thumb screws on me, as he put it.

Pre-registered mondial blue Cup with 51miles on it, £10999. Impressive car but to be honest it didnt feel that quick. Granted, I wasnt used to it, the car was 3up and it wasnt run in.

Would give me £4500 for the VTS which is what I owe on it. Was gonna add £1000 to the total to pay off my credit card. All added up to £254/month for 5 years or £304 for 4, based on something like £12500 roughly in total (with that extra grand included).

Tempted just I dont like paying for longer than 3. Id feel better if I had my visa cleared before I went out and bought another car. Id worry about being able to afford servicing, tyres etc.

What do you guys think?

Id say try and clear your existing debt before you get yourself in more. You always have to have a fair bit left back incase of things like punctures, minor prangs etc.

Aye thats what Im thinking. Its just so tempting, I never bought the Williams I always wanted and back in 94 I remember wishing I was of age to buy a brand new one. Im not gonna get another chance to buy a Cup new unless I go for it now.

Chris, try being a rate tart like me!:D Go take out a Mint card, theyll give you 0% for 8 months, just make the minimum payments and youll be fine. This way youre not paying off the majority in interest!

Paul, already been doing that for the last few years, running out of cards to apply for. I think Ill leave it til this time next year and buy a good second hand one. I said Id phone the salesman and let him know by tomorrow.

Chris, you know you can cancel your card and start a fresh. Its actually a better idea to cancel the card and reapply, than to keep the card(better credit rating that way!)! Tell me if Im telling my granny how to suck eggs and Ill shut up!;)

Chris,

My cup didnt feel a lot quicker than my VTR when I first got it :eek:but as the miles are going on its getting quicker and quicker. Been in Frostys with over 9k on and feck me it shifts!!!:devilish: Also it still suffers when its more than 1 up like any small hatch so that might be why. You wanna see a 106 XN with 3 up.............LOL!!!:)

Like most cars the best time to drive a cup is a cold dry night! and hold on!:D

u wanna drive a vtr 4 up!!! jees talk about slow lol go for it m8 although id say williams instead being wat ive got,

Chris,

He is offering £4500 which is what you owe...take it so you are quits but still need to finance the full price of the cup as you will have no deposit being as you sold yours to pay it off.

The cup is £11000..offer him £10500 cash

Their finance will be pants so get your own,to borrow £10500 and an extra £1000 to pay off your card you will be looking at about £220 a month for 5 years.

Get the cup now..nice and shiny and new,its calling you......dont regret not getting it :D

I wouldnt borrow 10k personally, I borrowed 5k to buy my saxo a few years ago. I didnt get a particularly good interest rate and ended up paying back around 6750 over 26ish months (payed off early). I didnt like having 180 odd quid going out of my account each month, maybe it just me, but Im not getting another car loan in the foreseeable future. I have been tempted by a cup but not enough to pay hundreds/thousands interest!!

Get a fixed rate loan, search on moneysupermarket.com

Although ive never had a loan on a car...just had cash put away and used that....i hate getting in debt, only one ive got is my mortgage which is unavoidable.

Id say clear your debt and get yourself straight, then get a 6-12 month old one and save yourself some £. Just picked up a 4 month old Leon Cupra R for £16k (was beign advertised at £17.5k but i got a deal), just over £18k list and theres a 12 week waiting list so u can do and get anything.

Thats what id do but everyones different!

Cheers for the advice guys. Been seriously thinking about it both ways all night but in the end Ive opted to stick with what Ive got for a bit longer. Ill get a good second hand one in a years time.

Chris - where is the Cup for sale about. Not that I want one, (already had 2!), but just out of interest, cause you started a post aye, thought you might have been a man of the kilt.
