There was no way he was ever going to make that jump with the approach he took.
He spent something like 5 - 10 minutes trying to get the approach sorted (I was watching from the staging area), but because he was running around the arena in a clockwise direction, he could not get the car straight enough for the approach. There were at least five aborted attempts when he got onto the take-off ramp and then went off the side.
If they'd cleared the 'exit' of the staging area and let him approach from there, he would have had a much straighter run to the launch ramp, and would have had a better change of making the jump, but probably would not have stopped in time for the barriers after landing!
