Link Alternator / Dogbone

  Add me 2 ur PS3 - Lylak
Hello all,

I've replaced the upper engine mount and it has got rid of the rumbling noise that I had previously.

However, it still makes a knocking noise and it's been diagnosed as the link alternator (apparently sometimes referred to as a dogbone?) that attaches the gearbox to the chassis.

What is this part called and where can I get the best price for one?

Are there any uprated versions of it?

Cheers,

when i was shopping round for engine mounts, i couldn't find anyone who sold replacement rubber dog bone bushes on the aftermarket (not saying there isn't anyone) - so they may be Renault only.

you can buy a poly replacement (as i did) from Powerflex: http://www.powerflex.co.uk/products.asp?cat=0026&catalog=0426&submit1.x=15&submit1.y=15

have a good look on search, though, as some have had problems with poly bushes. whilst searching, check out the stuff on engine mounts and knocking (in general) as there's loads of info you might find useful (esp. the suggestion that you can solve a lot of knocks by slackening the top engine mount and pulling the engine forward)

Does this 'bush' attached the gearbox to the chassis then?

I've no idea what I'm looking for, does anyone have any pictures or links to uprated ones?

I need to get the part in ASAP and get it fitted.

Cheers.

Theres a few on here who have tried the powerflex ones and its caused more damage as they dont allow much movement. Best to try and get the renault one, they are easy to fit underneath the car.

Does anyone have a part number or a description as I'm a bit lost as to what part I actually need and don't want to needlessly spend £££.

Does the trick of sliding the engine forward on the mounts actually work then?

the trick of pulling the engine forward has certainly worked for me in the past but i guess it depends upon how shot your engine mounts are - worth a go before you spend any money, anyway

this is from KTEC Racing's site and shows the dog bone in position (with poly bushes): http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1485

it bolts to the bottom of the gearbox at the back and connects to the subframe

don't know the Renault part numbers but a dealer will obv. be able to advise. also, the bushes are an interference fit in the alloy arm and will need pressing out and in (with the new) - unless Renault sell the alloy arm with bushes fitted (?)

my drivers side engine mount is brand new so will I still b able to bring the engine forward?

Those poly bushes look good but say they are only available for twisted mounts. Will I need to buy the mount as well or do they fit Renault mounts??

The poly bushes are pressed into the renault mounts. Yours will be the twisted type, you can use your old dogbone mount for the new polybushes but as said they are not recommended on here much..

Undo the 4 bolts on the drivers mount and pull the engine forward then tighten. See if that improves things. (see pic below)..Where the arrows are there should be no gap between the rubber and the black metal buffer.

sorry to drag up an old thread, the pic above says to pull the engine towards the front of the car and there should be no gap where the arrows are, but surely if you pull the engine forward, you're going to increase the gap where the arrows are?

I should have worded it better, you pull the whole lot forward. So the black mount buffer needs to be moved forward as far as it will go with the bolts loose.

thanks for clarifying. it was already pulled forward, but i wedged a couple of peg halves in the back of the mount to push it forward another few mm. at least if it stops the banging i know what i need to replace. cheers.
