Been using WMP for years now and all my music is on that in MP3 format. But got an Ipod for chrimbo :)

However this means converting it all over to AAC format and tbh its been a complete pain in the ring. Has doubled up songs, keeps the old ones etc. At 1 point I had 3 copies per song but it was saying it could only play 2 of them :S

Just doesnt seem as easy to use as WMP and has been nothing but a pain in my ass for the last 2 days. Deleted and started again, selecting everything for conversion but it has twice decided to only convert 668 out of the 200 songs I have :S

f**king hate it!!!!

You don't need to convert them to AAC to play on your iPod, nothing wrong with iTunes!

your problems are of your own making! Why exactly are you converting from mp3 to aac? :s

Sorry doubvle checked and its convertimg wma to aac.

However why is this throwing up so many duplicates when Im not showing any on WMP :S

Almost half the songs are duplicated and it'll take days to get trhough them all.

Basically, whats the easiest way of transferring my entire collection to itunes?

First thing I do in iTunes is change the import to 192k MP3..

iTunes, is in fact, the best music player and organiser ever.. FACT! (Apart from WinAmp, which is good for playing the odd track ;))

See, your problem is WMP and it's shitty WMA format.. ;)

iTunes is *trying* to save you.. haha. (And iTunes doesn't do WMA, only converts it to something sane, like MP3 :p)

Thats fair enough but why is it duplicating so many of them? Not showing a single double in WMP. Its reall f**king pissing me off now.

Ive deleted the full itunes library, moved the itunes folder out of my music folder and its still f**king doing it.

Itune is bollox imo!

It doesnt and wont monitor a folder and auto add the files found in it, (yes i know u can get a prog to do this as well)! It automatically syncs everything so if u have 15,000 tracks it trys to put the whole lot onto the ipod so u have to crete a playlist and just sync that!

Utter crap...

See, that's how things SHOULD work.. Heh.
Monitoring folder thing is annoying though.. it should do that by default really.

WMP to me is quite possibly the worst unusable application Microsoft has ever made.. and they've made some shockers. Nothing is logical IMO - it's ugly, it's unusable, and it's stupid.

iTunes ftw!

I've not even got to the putting music on my ipod yet!

However I have more than my 8gb pod will allow, is it just gonna carry on regardless? I wanted to pick and choose what was going on it.

In the same boat with getting an ipod although fortunately all my tunes are all in mp3 so no worries there but itunes is gash imo. Slow and bloated, WMP is mucho better imo. Had a right game getting all the album art sorted as itunes only found it for about half of my albums and WMP doesn't do id3 album art by default.

I set mine up today and it hasn't once automatically synched anything (which is good, as I wanted to choose which tracks to copy), everything on my iPod I've moved manually (album by album, mainly). There must be a setting to stop it synching, as I clearly have that button checked!

I have two issues with it though...

1) Can you put albums back together? I copied Orbital Works 89-02 over from a CD and it decided to take one track out of the album and place it seperately. So now when I album browse it comes up twice, once with 1 track, and again with all the rest.

2) I bought my other half a shuffle, bought some tracks for her (on my account) and gave it to her 'pre-filled', now she has downloaded iTunes onto her laptop with her own account, when she synched her shuffle it would only let her connect once the tracks I put on there had been removed. So essentially, she has lost all the tracks I've already bought her.

Not sure where then.. the options i have seen are either

  • Sync my music
  • Sync playlists..
So one or the other.. personally it should add all music to the libary and then u just tick the ones u want to sync.. but if u untick them all it then thinks u dont wana listen to them so takes them out of rotation...

absolute dog turd :rasp:

On the summary screen under Options...

- Sync only checked songs and videos (I have this unticked)
- Manually manage music and videos (I have this ticked)

Then under the various tabs (music, podcasts etc) I have the main sync buttons unchecked.

All working perfectly here, it only syncs what I want when I ask it to.

ahh sound just like the fun i used toh ave with the sony walkman connect player, it was more unstable than a mental patient. the walkmsn onlyplays in oma files so has to convert all music to oma, which take hour especially when uit keep crashing, i was told to use sony sound stage but that was not as dire but it was still usless and awkward.
soo glad my walkman phone is soo yeay to use, drag and drop, plays just about anything., only problem is that for some reason soy decided it would be a good idea to put he ringtones, in the music folder to they mix in with your tracks so you need to make up a play list with only your music in it because you cant delete the ring tones.

iTunes is simple.

If you cant use it properly then its you that is s**t, not iTunes.

itunes is some of the worst software i have ever came accross.

and to top it all off, it insists you put the abortion of a software they call "quicktime".

ill never own an ipod purely because of how bad itunes and quicktime are

I'm sure it is.... but that doesn't help the other 99% of people who don't use OS X lol.

itunes isn't brilliant, at least not for Windows. The biggest trouble I've had is with alvum art. Some works, some doesn't. But itunes doesn't even offer any reason as to why. It jut sits there.

*shrugs* maybe it's just me that's simple. Although I use over 20 other programs on a regular basis and have no problems.....

Album art only works if the tracks descriptions match exactly with itunes store.

Been using iTunes for about 4 years now and I think its great. My only gripe with it is that it occassionally seems to delete album artwork, not sure why. Other than that extremely easy to use and can be set to do most things.

I used to hate my old iPod but have a new Nano and thats great too, even got a program so I can rip and movie file to disk and converts it to mp4 so I can watch all my programs/ films and so on through iTunes and transfer it to my iPod at a decent compressed rate. Brilliant!

As opposed to Windows which is STILL trying to install updates I don't want from about 2 years ago...
