Luke's Arctic Blue 182

So despite only having the car for just over a week, things have been done so thought I might as well start the progress thread.

After owning my 1.2 172 rep for 2 years, I decided come renewal time I needed something a little more comfortable and quicker. 182 was instantly out the window after a couple of insurance quotes so decided on something big a diesel such as a Saab or ford, however I ended up selling my 1.2 to a guy on the forums girlfriend, he came down and it turned out he had a 182 turbo pushing 330bhp, after him taking me out in it i really badly wanted a 182 again and managed to get a very reasonable insurance quote on one which is pretty good at 18.

Didn't have much of a time frame due to work but someone selling a blue 182 dropped the price that i was keeping a eye on. So got the train up to reading to meet my cousin and a deal was done, drove it back down there and then. The car's a arctic blue 182 with both cup packs, 132k, full service history, and in amazing condition both inside and out, ktec back box and k&n apollo air filter.

Thats about it in the terms of mods that include pics but I have also fitted the genuine sport mats out of my old 1.2, my Alpine stereo, along with a bit of club rep by a new rear window sticker and de-bobbled the seats as they were bad. Then last weekend gave it a really good clean including decontamination, will re-do it this weekend followed by a polish and wax

Short term plans are as follows:
  • Cambelt including water pump and dephaser as its rattling and cambelt is due next year, am saving for that now as will be expensive. Will get it done by rentec in Portsmouth
  • Fresh set of plates and maybe a 3/4 front plate
  • sort out slight play in steering
  • tracking
  • paint inlet manifold and fuel rail guard bright silver to freshen up the bay
  • new set of smoothed bullets
  • Washer blanks
  • polish exhaust tips
  • spray upper grill satin black
  • sort out cat to manifold exhaust leak
Long term plans which will probably end up being done next year after renewal include:
  • Cooksports and cup shocks
  • suspension refresh
  • turinis in either gloss black or anthacite
  • spacers
  • front and rear bumper respray due to scuffs
  • recaros?
Couple of pics from today on the way home from work, as you can tell im no photographer:

Looking good mate, I like the black and blue combo on these arctics, looks good! Satin black front grille, badges, fog light surrounds and bullets maybe? Done quite a few times before but that still don't stop the fact it goes well :)

  Clio Mk2,Mazda3sport
Looks lovely snd ur rep looks like you've done a very good job to be good to read up on that if u made s thread

  BMW 320d SE
Looks great for the mileage. Where did you get the splitter as the wife has just snapped mine in half thanks to a flying come on the M3?

Thanks bud, you recently got a 182 didnt you? pretty sure i saw your thread for it. Im thinking black and blue too, only issue is i might get some anthracite smoothed bullets and dont know if it will look wierd with the different colour cominations. Some pic searches is needed i think
thanks mate

Cheers mate, yup i have a progress thread for the 1.2. http://www.cliosport.net/threads/my-stealth-black-mk2-1-2-172-rep.736981/ - If you fancy a read haha

I agree, quite suprised at the bodywork considering the mileage, very few stonechips aswell. the splitter is a Skoda Fabia one, quite a common choice as there only £13 odd from the Skoda dealership, think i ended up paying £15.50 delivered off ebay as couldnt be bothered to go to the dealership as its quite a trek. There pretty indestructable aswell.

Not really much happening, received my PTFE upper inlet gasket so can get on with painting the inlet now, will get the paint and hopefully do it over the weekend

So done a few things.

Progress has been slow as i've been focussing on clearing some debt, so car money has been used to pay this off at the moment. However im very close to clearing it so im starting to focus on doing a few things.

Have bought a couple of bits recently. As it was sunny yesterday i did a few bits to the car. polished the air con pipes as part of a plan to freshen up the engine bay. Today i also bought some paint to do the inlet manifold and fuel rail guard, hopefully should get that done sometime this week or next weekend. Also fixed my ecu backet with a big washer, good quality fix 😂.

lastly, aquired some silver hammerite and painted my front calipers, ran out of time so will do the rears next weekend. The proceeded to polish the exhaust tips, did 1 and got bored haha, will do the other asap

Got pretty bored this weekend so spent some money aswell. Soon to arrive should be a new number plate housing and led bulb to go with it. LED interior bulbs and sidelights. Along with some satin black paint to do the grills.

Recieved my LED bulbs and number plate light housing, all that is left now is the number plate led bulb and to do the dash conversion. This will be a while yet though as it was terrible to do when i did it on my 1.2

Smallish update - A good night gone bad

Picked up my smoothed sprayshack bullets from @Ash J , Good to meet you today mate. Then a good drive back home, took the backroads and saw 3 Arctic blue's and a megane sport, ironic considering was just talking about not seeing any other arctic blue's around.

Annoyingly about 20 seconds from home, i drove over a massive stick which i saw at the last minute. Thought all was fine after the horrific sound of it going under my car but shortly afterwards there was a loud hissing from the engine. So shut it off and coasted home. Got out the car to found said stick stuck through my lower grill , has punctured my AC grill and the hissing was from the gas dispersing. A lucky excape but still need to sort it at some expense:expressionless:

Hopefully a better update soon, anyway will get it sorted asap. Sorry for the pics being the wrong way

Good to meet you too mate.

How funny considering we were talking about how few Arctic's there are on the road! Yours is very tidy for the mileage!

That sucks about the incident with the stick. It's soon to be winter, so probably won't need AC anyway! Plenty of time to sort it!

Sucks dude! All by a stick aswell.
Plenty of these cars breaking though so parts should be easy enough. Plus whilst the bumpers off.. Washer blanks (;
Yeah was pretty angry bud, ripped the stick out of my grill and hit it on the floor multiple times 😂😂 think it was because i thought it was worse than it was. hopefully find one soon and get it swapped out, luckily its one of those parts that most people wont buy so people are just trying to get rid. Haha thats the plan mate, am keeping my eye out for a set but might be in luck with testing a prototype set . Will also spray grills black whilst im there.

Thanks mate, pretty pleased with it, i was cracking up when i saw the 3rd one 😂 couldnt believe it.

Yeah its unlucky, but tbf last time i used it was when i tested it when i bought the car so i dont think its that important haha. Will probably get it sorted asap anyway as will start to annoy me knowing its broken. Bullets fitted now aswell, looks awesome. Makes such a difference. Will post a few pics in a sec:grin:

Fitted my smoothed bullets this morning. Make such a difference and the job quality is amazing.

Then the postman arrived with a few presents. Got a replacement gearstick insert, i still might invest in some colour coded interior parts but this was only £2 and a vast improvement. Also got my new bonnet seal rubber as you can see mine was broken. Then finally my engine bay upgrade bolts, really nice quality and a nice touch with 'renault sport' written on them.

Still awaiting on a couple of other bits. Should arrive tomorrow hopefully

Quite a successful day

Went to the Goodwood breakfast club this morning, was the thoroughbred one so some expensive cars. It did give me the urge to get cracking on a few jobs this afternoon.

Removed my inlet manifold, fuel rail guard and throttle body. Looked like it had been off before and instead of replacing the gaskets they had just used some sealant. So spent a while removing all that s**t. Then masked off and painted them in bright silver. Really like it as freshens up the bay quite a bit. All that is left now is a new expansion tank and battery cover.

Also cleaned my throttle body, dont think it has ever been done. Was pretty bad, looks better now though

Lastly fitted my 16mm spacers from @Kchristmas. Subtle but brings out the front wheels a bit more so very happy with them. Just the rears to do now.

Waiting on paint so i can get cracking on painting my washer blanks, when i remove the bumper to do them, i will also spray the grills and fog surrounds in satin black.

Got to use my new toolkit, loving it at the moment!

So just took it for a quick drive to make sure everyting was ok. And holy mother of god, its so much quicker. It picks up instantly now and definatley feels faster. I can only assume the throttle body was holding it back, however i did clean the sensors in the inlet manifold

Some good progress here! Coming up nice now. Anything else planned?
thanks mate. A list as long a my arm 😂, but in the short term -
paint and fit my newly aquired washer blanks
grills are going black
rear calipers silver
Put my new tyres on
machine polish
197 badge
turinis!! :grin::grin:

Sounds good! Keeping the front and rear diamonds silver or going to go black?

Back when I had my Arctic for all of a week I had plans to change all my interior trims to 172 cup ones as they're all Arctic blue. Dash trims, gear stick insert, steering wheel insert and even the speedo clock surrounds I wanted blue too.

All fuel for the fire haha.

Haven't decided yet, im thinking i might go anthacite to match the bullets and my new turinis when i get them, its been an ongoing thing i keep thinking about haha, dunno if i add black to the mix if it will look to busy . I did buy a set of colour coded dash strips but unfortunatly there was an issue and couldnt fit them. I think so some reason because i had hydrodipped carbon ones last time, i want the interior to be as standard as possible, i have no idea why haha.

As its meant to be sunny on the weekend and i have f**k all planned, i have decided to tick a few things off the list .

Front bumper off and spray the grills and fog surrounds, and fit my new washer blanks.
Machine polish
fit new rear badge if it arrives
rear calipers silver

then all is left is cooksports, turinis and rear spacers i think

got a few things planned for today:
  • Recieved my new rs200 badge so get that fitted.
  • Fit my washer blanks and colour coded boot button that i have been painting over the last few days. Pretty pleased with how they have turned out.
  • Fit my flocked interior parts that i got off ebay, after a recomendation from @Ash J. Because the seller lists things on 99p auctions, i managed to get some bargins. Light surround was 99p and flocked a pillers were £10. Also just won some speakers covers for again 99p. The work is really good aswell.
  • machine polish over the weekend, as all of my new detailing parts have now arrived.

So i did everything other than machine polish it, as the farmers were harvesting the field opposite so there was a lot of dust floating around and covering the car. Have booked thursday and friday off work so will do it then. Other than that everything was fitted without issues so will just let the pics do the talking.

Will fit a new cv boot clip tomorrow as mines broken off and then give it a wash. Cant wait to machine polish it now

Just ordered a 3/4 front plate, decided to go for 90mm rather than 84mm so its will fit the recess better and be a little less obvious that its not a standard plate. Decided to just go for the front plate as it worked out cheaper to buy the rear seperatley off ebay. Also bought some black vinyl wrap, thought i can do the diamonds and if i dont like it if it doesnt work with the anthracite then i can just remove it.

Looking good! Cracking on with it all quite quick. Thought about spraying the rear bumper insert too?

Liking the washer blanks, where did you get your set from? My only option atm is the carbon place on ebay. Plus how you gone about deleting the actual headlight washer from spraying water everywhere inside the bumper haha, Always wondered that.

Other than that some awesome progress, I think black diamonds will be :up:

Cheers bud, got nothing better to do so might as well spend money on the car haha. I was going to but i have just put some AF revive on it the other day so wasnt too bad, plus i had a nightmare getting my last one off.

I managed to get to test a set of prototype (i guess they would be) washer blanks before the guy starts to make loads to sell. But spraying and fitting was easy. Very good quality. The piping was a wierd one, i have read how to do it before but couldnt find the answer anywhere when i looked it up yesterday. Im pretty sure i did it correctly, you basically just take the pipes off and connect the 2 feed pipes together to loop it back round. I haven't actually checked them yet so could be a massive fail 😂😂
Good work mate

All about the subtle changes on these
thanks mate. Yeah i went a little over the top on my old 1.2, so trying to not go the same way with this one.

Fitted the new CV boot clip and gave the car a wash. Got a little impatient so decided to machine polish my front wing to see how it will turn out. Looks good, and should look even better when spending more time on it. Then touched up a few chips, not perfect but at least they now blend in.

Had a spare cabin filter from my old 1.2 as i accidentally bought 2. Wasnt too bad but looked like it could do with a change.

Recieved my front plate. Went to halfords today to pick up a set of ratchet spanners that i ordered as they were on offer. Was going to get some velcro coins whilst i was there but forgot and only realised when i got home :unamused:. Will be driving past again tomrrow so will stop in and get some.

Also my black vinyl wrap arrived. Pretty dissapointed with how it has turned out, wouldnt have minded on my 1.2 but am pretty OCD with the 182 and it not being perfect is really annoying me. The vinyl was already all scratched when i bought it, which made it look like it was satin not gloss plus it doesnt stick very well at all and i can scratch it just using my finger. Guess its what you pay for, with it only being £3. @sparklesTHEpony what you think bud, black or chrome badges? i cant decide  Whatever the case it isnt staying like that, looks way to s**t of a job 😂.

For £3 mate at least the curiosity itch has been scratched and we now know the outcome  chrome is looking better though :)

Looking sweet overall so far! jealous of the washer blanks haha

Fitted the 3/4 front plate, opted for 90mm as someone said that was the size of the recess but after fitting its more like 100mm. Ahh well a great improvement. Also recieved a oil top up kit that fits nicely in the boot, hopefully will never need it but its there and looks good.

Over the weekend i sorted out the bodywork on the car. Luckily blue doesnt show the dirt well so although its dirty it still looks ok, unlike my old 1.2 which was black 😂.

Stages went in this order
Rinse
quick spray with bug remover
wash with lambs wool mitt
rinse
better coating of bug remover which was left to dwell then rinsed off
same procedure with iron-x and tardis
rinse
had to go over and get the worse tar spots with some AG intensive tar remover
wash
rise
clay using dodo juice clay
wash and rinse
dry with AF aqua deluxe

Polish and seal
Then i masked it up and machine polished with menzerna polish on a hexlogic pad followed by some tripple on a finishing pad. Waxed with some dodo juice purple haze i had, then a coat of AF tough coat.

Trim Dressing etc
Some pics after completion, woke up this morning and applied some AF revive to the trims and AF satin to the tyres then some autosmart glass glow to the glass. Didnt even touch the wheels as they are being replaced soon and cant be bothered to make them slightly better as no point. Overall not a bad outcome for a newbie to machine polishing.

Couple from after
