Megane Coupe (not a clio)!

  Megane dci 130
Hi people! Just thought I would post an ongoing project log of the things Im doing to it and so on.

The car - Its a 1999 1.6 16v Megane Coupe, Monaco model which is the highest spec you could have on the coupes.
It has 62000 on the clock and is in silver.

This is what it looked like when I first got it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/DSC00479.jpg
First things first was to give it a good look over and change plugs, airfilter, and fuel filter and the camblet and water pump which was 4 years overdue!

The air filter was changed for this which I got off ebay for £5,
http://i21.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/d3/d3/bf00_1.JPG

With it now roadworthy, I set about fixing the electric rear opening window motor which wasnt working. I stripped out the rear of the car to get at the motor and sure enough, the saftey cutoff was in place. With that removed, a good grease up and a rebuild and the window was now working.

Thats all for now! :D

Next up, I had noticed the Idle isnt very stable. With this being quite a common problem, I set about re programming the ECU with the latest data and taking off the throttle body and giving it a good scrub! When rebuilt, all was good.

In the meantime i have Taken off the door handles and boot button and colour coded them which makes the car look 10X better, I also put some hatchback chrome grilles in the bonnet. I also bought a few things from ebay.

Next up was to sort out some wheels. I had my heart set on the anthricite 182 rims but none came up at a good price, so I settled for some 172 wheels I got from worster.

Then i was off to get some yellow hamarite to get the calipers painted.

Update! IV had some french style metal pressed plates made from www.French-Number-Plates.com and they look very smooth...

Pics.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P290208_135101.jpg

I have also treated the leather to some auto glym leather care cream which has brought them up a treat! There very slidey now though!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P290208_1351.jpg

I recieved my new sportex rear box today and well happy with the look of it. A single 3' round and I had the end rolled in rather that outwards. Sits very neat its not too loud like I wanted. A bargain at £100!

At work today aswell I found a later style engine cover I must of left off a customers car! (woops!) I offered it up and it fitted so out came the cable ties and it hides all the nasty wires.

Lowering soon! ;)

Iv added a few things to the megane over the last couple of weeks.

First thing I done was to refurb the 172 rims. I got my self one of these to make life easier.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7110670/Trail/searchtext>SANDER.htm

First I have them a good rub down and filled the edges to get rid of all the curb marks.
I then gave them a good couple of coats of filler primer, 3 coats of pearl white and 1 coat of laquer.
The finish isnt perfect but they look 10x better considering I have no painting skills fullstop!

Any way some pictures of the process.

Next I fitted my jamex 40mm lowering springs on the front.

Here are a couple of up to date pictures before and after...

After

Another update today while iv got a couple of days off work. I sorted a few niggly problems with the coupe.
First off was the high level brake light which wasnt working. Had a good poke around using the wiring diagrams from work and found a broken wire where it goes through a gromet in the bodywork after stripping the whole rear end out! I added a new piece of wire and hey presto, a working light.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P170408_1438.jpg

Gromet it was broken in...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P170408_143901.jpg

Next was an annoying flapping noise coming from the loose re circulation flap when I close the doors. I took off the scuttle and with a combination of cable ties screws and a piece of wood (bit of a bodge i know) it was sorted.

Also today I fitted my new sticker..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P170408_143902.jpg

I also went out and bought a bolt to do my torsion bar and some plus gas to lube it up every day untill next saturday when they ARE going to come out wether they like it or not! :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P170408_1232.jpg

Also the other day I won a bargain of the year on ebay, a set of 172 aluminium pedals with the potentiometer for £10! I added up the total cost of if i was to buy it new and it was over £130!
I will drill out the rivets and put them on the coupes pedals.

After seeing my mates punto with a set of universal 6000k hid's I had to have some so I ordered some jap ones from ebay. I will get some pictures up when fitted. ;)

Update!

I got my handles sprayed better from my mate at a body shop, here are the results...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_1730.jpg

Aslo I spent all morning at work today to get some things done on my coupe!

Job1

To fit the 6000k diamond white HID kit I bought from ebay for the tidy sum of £45 delivered from china...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_1727.jpg

I fitted the bulbs and ballasts and wired it all up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_172901.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_172801.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_1729.jpg
Tidied all the wireing up and heres the finished result!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_172902.jpg

They dont look as blue as they do in the picture but They are 10x better to see with in the dark and give them a good blue glow you see on most merc's etc.

Job2

Next was to fit the 172 aluminium pedals to my original pedals. This was quite straight forward really, I just drilled out the rivets on the original pedals drilled new holes on the megane pedals and screwed them to it. The brake and clutch were quite straight forward but the throttle rubber does not come off. So I just took the pedal off and drilled holes and screwed the aluminium plate on top of the rubber/plastic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_1728.jpg

When done, they looked spot on and are a tidy little mod that I love.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_173001.jpg

Job3

Didnt go to plan and im very pissed off! My torsion bars are seized solid. After spraying them with plus gas for about 2 weeks every day, the damn things will still not come out. The bolt and socket method failed miserably and my slide hammer just gave my a bad arm and a bruised hand! So things are staying as they are unless a cheap lowered axel comes along .

Some pics!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P260408_090201.jpg

After gettin bord of doing the coupe, Some geezer came in asking me to fit a sportex full system including manifold and induction kit to his 1988 fiesta, little did I know it was this minter..

So that was my day!

More updates soon

An update at last!

With FCS closing in it was time to tidy a few things up on the megane! 1st thing was to take the 172 wheels off for painting and put the original wheels back on.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_154101.jpg

With that out of the way I popped up my local cheapo shop and got sum silver Very high temp paint for £4.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_1438.jpg

1st thing was to get the car higher up so I could get the undertray off to support the engine from underneath, so out came my jack

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_130001.jpg

And off came the undertray
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_1300.jpg

I removed the Injector cover and engine mount and gave them a good rub down to remove all the 9 years worth of dirt.

Engine mount off -

And after-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_140901.jpg

I will end up powdercoating the cam cover at some point but for now its ok. :)

Update soon ;)

Next was to tidy the plastics up in the engine bay, I got to work with a black to black cleaner and this was the outcome..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_153502.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_153503.jpg

I went over the manifold, fusebox, ECU cover and the radiator fan plastics and airbox. makes it look a bit fresher.

Next, I got the rear end up on ramps and loosened off the exhaust to re-align it to the cut out in the bumper, a simple job :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_153401.jpg

Another little job I did was to remove the resinator box and replace it with a cold air feed of some sort.
After routing through my dads shed, I found a meter long peice of tubing. With a little duck tape, insulation tape and half of the resinator box, this was the outcome -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P150608_153501.jpg

After this was done, I removed my No fat chicks sticker from the side window which looked a bit gay!

After -

This was replaced by this -

A new update!

Done a few little things to the coupe lately....

First off I fitted my new freshly painted DIY job wheels. Im so glad I changed from white!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P190608_211201.jpg

Second of all I have changed the side repeaters for Koleos ones. When the koleos came out I spotted that it had pretty cool ones on it. So I went and got some priced up and they were 3 quid each! Bargain! Here are some pictures with them fitted!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P100708_1735.jpg

Just for peoples reference the part number for these is 26 16 089 900

Next, after looking around FCS I noticed that people had colour coded parts of their cars in bright colours like mirrors and badges in orange for example. I liked this but wasnt brave enough for the bright orange! So a trip to my mates bodyshop and 10 pounds lighter, I had vauxhall moonland grey mirrors to match my wheels which I think go really well. :)

A couple of up to date pictures at Sunday Street Wars....

I also put a Laguna Splitter on too :)

A new update for you all!

The other day I was up at 7 to make my 300 mile round trip to birmingham to pick up some 182 wheels from bluenose 53. Did it in good time and got back home at 1 after a gordano kfc feast :D.

When I got back I thought I would get on and start my 3rd DIY refurb as they wernt in great shape!

Heres what they looked like when I picked them up....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/CIMG1980.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/CIMG1982.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/CIMG1983.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/CIMG1985.jpg

First off I removed the badges from the centre caps
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_1320.jpg

And gave them a good wash
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_1344.jpg

There were a few deep nicks but after a rub down it was all smooth

Two rubbed down
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_1531.jpg

All rubbed down
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_1745.jpg

A good tip I found was to use spray sugar soap to clean the wheels after every step to keep them de greased and clean.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_184001.jpg

This was the only peice of filling that was needed!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_174501.jpg

The centre caps were rubbed down and plastic primed...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_174502.jpg

And got the wheels in there first light coat of primer!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P280908_185001.jpg

So now im nakard, my hand is hurting after all the rubbing down and my eyes are hurting from all the dust!

When I finally got round to swapping the tyres from the old 172 wheels I put them on the car and gave them a polish and heres the outcome. Rather good I think!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P021008_1344.jpg

I will get some pics up of the whole car soon!

One thing I did also was to remove the centre silencer from the exhaust just because I was bored :D

So out came the silencer and I measured how long it was and cut a straight peice of normal pipe of the same length and diameter.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P060908_132901.jpg

Then in it went and it was taked in place. Then the centre section was removed and but welded all the way around.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P060908_1329.jpg

There wernt any gains from this apart from its made it a little louder. Hehe!

One other little job I did was to re do my gearknob as all the writing had worn off. So I prised the plastic cap off and rubbed it down with some wet and dry.

After a lick of iceburg silver paint it was like this....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/shepperdspie/P071008_1321.jpg

I bought a new sticker from this shop in ebay and was well pleased with the finish!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=150293883578

A picture of the finshed thing will be up tomorow.
