Mini Cooper S - Forum & Garages needed

  RB 182
Does anyone know of a decent website forum or Mini specialist within the midlands area (+100 miles radius) for checking and replacing electrical parts?

Basically my missus has been having several problems with the car boot opening, electrics resetting, not starting, parts failing whilst driving, etc. Her mini dealer (Rybrook Warwick) don't have a clue and the warranty ends next week. They are also going to charge if they find the fault and the parts cannot be ordered before the warranty ends.

Several letters sent to the dealer and BMW Mini and they don't give a toss. Seen quite a few bad reviews about the electrics on Mini's.

Cheers,

Mike

Earthing problem? Mini2.com is good for advice.

Im on there atm cheers :) why would the earthing cause the problems? just had a chat with this missus and problems are below:

Current Problem

Electrical Failure light comes on, mileage clock resets, car may not start, boot opens itself

It first reset its electrics last week, 6days later it has done it again

Boot has opened on its own on multiple journeys

You can extend the warranty...

Costs a fortune and the same problem seems to happen. It's one thing for the clock to just go dead, but for the boot to open when doing 70, or total electric failure is quite another. Would rather a specialist look at it as the garage is either masking up a serious problem, or just haven't got a clue and hanging her out to dry on the matter.

I can recommend Noel @ NCB Autokraft in Solihull. BMW specialist so should be able to look after the Mini good enough!

If you are under warranty head straight to mini customer services. Email them, send a copy special delivery.

I doesnt matter if your warranty expires as you will have reported it before hand. Saves shelling out of your own pocket. Can you not try another dealer also?

Contract states that parts are only covered if in stock under warranty period. The car is there atm and they said it's now something to do with the foot well?!?!?! We have got plenty of legal info off the mini2.com forum so if they drag their feet we are going into the main dealer on sat to kick up a fuss with the customers around  Service and quality from this dealer and mini in general is shocking, really poor considering the cost of the cars and reputation.

My missus contacted Lohen and they gave her some helpfull advice, will pop into thinkmini this week too.

if its something to do with the footwell, it may be the BC1 unit in the drivers footwell having water seeping into it. can play havoc and give the random unrelated issues you have with boot, clock etc.

The BC1 pretty much controls everything in the car electric wise.

As far as I am aware labour is also included. My mini had a rad replaced in Apr 08 and started steaming in May 09. As they give two years warranty on replacement parts, they inspected it and replaced it as it was faulty foc.

I'm sorry if this sounds nasty but listen to what Jay has said.

If the problem has occured before the warranty ends then it's a warranty problem.
No dealer would ever have a problem putting that through. If it's been looked at several times for the same thing then they can't say it failed outside the warranty period.

Believe me you case would stand up well in court, don't believe what a dealer tells you.

Cheers for the info! I called the dealer today on the gf's behalf. They said its a FRM MOdule problem in the footwell. After reading a few comments on here and other forums, starting to believe it is something to do with water/moisture getting into the electrics.

No problemo dude, have you got an R53 or R56? some of these dealers are incompetent fudge packers, they should know about these issues on R53s. I think it was common in the early models.

  RB 182
R56

The gf doesn't want the car anymore, so was either going to keep the car till the minimal finance was paid off, or just cut her losses and pay up what is remaining. After a few telephone conversation with them today, they have agreed to buy back the car and leave the missus with some cash in her pocket.

Bit of a shame as I do like that car and given to the correct specialist, would be fixed. I guess when you have so many problems you just want wrid... :(

Good side is that she wants a CS ;)
