Mintex M1155 pad users, please look.

I had a performance brake package fitted to my Clio 182 this week by a reputable specialist. Consisted of New front Discs, M1155 pads, braided lines and ATE Super Blue. I've driven roughly 100 hundred miles on them, moderately braked to start with then a couple of 80-30mph to try and bed them in more. I checked them over briefly last night and noticed that the pads don't make full contact with the disc surface, is this normal with this pad??

The specialist got back to me and said he had compared a pad to a disc and this untouched area was normal, I just wanted ask other people that have been using this pad if they've noticed this?

yeah pretty normal until they bed, as long as the pins are free and the shims have been binned you'll be fine

Cheers for the additional feedback. I had many different pads in my 106 Rallye, but never experienced this condition of the pads not fully contacting the disc surface.


I appreciate M1155's are far more focused than OEM and are likely to squeal, but these Squeal like f**k! Embarassingly so. Will they quiet down?

I have the same brake setup as yours, probably from the same guy... Did a 100-200 miles normal driving and noticed the same contact area as shown in your pics. After a trackday though the contact was perfect.

Also yeah the squealing doesn't go away (at least not in the ~1000 miles i've had them...). I still much prefer the feel compared to what I had before.

It's on moderate/light braking 20mph or less, the area I'd expect some squeal but these seem excessively noise. I'll whip the wheel off when I'm back from work and get some better pics.

I found 1144's absolutely terrible.

I found 1144's absolutely terrible.

1144 are only a slight step up from a standard pad, 1155 are a fair bit more aggressive.
1155 are very noisey though, I had some on an E30 bmw years ago and it was positively embarassing pulling upto traffic lights etc, sounded like the car was broken, although they dont see quite that noisey on the clios.

The M1144 are classed as "fast road" pads and the M1155 their track pads

Mine squeal like a horny pig.

I get over the embarrassment safe in the knowledge of that packages truly epic performance!

Even smoking away and stinking after over an hour on track they did not fade at all! fantastic

edit: cant help with the surface area though as im a trackday and over 1000 miles into their use

My dont squeel to bad after a few thousand miles on them. As for the smoke, thats when you know youre working them hard! And i agree, no fade after practically setting them on fire!

Generally that they buy what is a very suitable road pad, then use it on trackdays and **** it off for not being a trackday pad.

M1144 pads are perfect for the road. I've had them fitted to my 225 for a while now and I've had no problems at all.

Altogether depends how hard you use the brakes - I for example have had the 1155's smoking just on the road so i suspect 1144's would have given up.

Also many people wont want to change brake pads for the odd trackday but also wont want to kill their road pads at said trackday so opt to put up with track pads drawbacks on the road (in this case noise).

If you drive like enough of a dickhead on the road then I guess it could be an issue, dont ever have that problem myself though in our clios.

I think 'dickhead' and 'tit' are a bit strong boys. Grow up.

Living on the edge of the north Yorkshire moors means lots of access to hilly, twisty open roads, and bends and hills work brakes hard. I know my driving style and the roads I play on works brakes hard so I make sure I have the best setup I can.

But I suppose I'm talking to those types that love to preach and keyboard warrior so wasting my breath

Tbh even on those sort of roads unless there is something wrong with your Clio when it comes to bends I don't see why you would have to stand on the brakes enough to trouble a reasonable setup like 1144, unless you have a sticking caliper or something.

Personally I dont drive that badly, but I do understand that doesnt mean that other people also dont, we all have different driving styles and if in a low powered well handling car with good brakes you are still finding that you are deciding to slow down so much for the bends that you have to stand on them so hard you are causing smoke Im not going to call you a liar

I thought you were supposed to be bright? Don't have to constantly stand on brakes for there to be a build up of heat in them. And once enough heat is generated, the pads smoke.

When you drive along. The brakes dissipate heat.

Surprising stuff I know. But unless you are working them very hard or have a problem they don't in normal use gain heat quicker than they lose it once their temp gets high (hotter they are the quicker they lose temp)

on a rs Clio on the road with fairly standard power when not driving like a tool no one ever does need to. The standards with just a reasonable pad in are fine for that use.
