mk2 v6 vs 182 cup

  Mk2 172
Can someone answer this question for me please as im bored of arguing with people about it!!!
Is the v6 clio mk2. NOT mk1. Is it that much quicker than a 182 cup in a straight line for instance.
The v6 may be more powerful but is carrying shed loads more weight! More than 300kilos!
The performance figures arent hugely different either and we all know how much .5 of a second really makes on the road. (not a fat lot)
Any help will be much appreciated :)

A well driven Mk2 Vee would beat you in a straight line, round bends, from lights down to the shops, round town, on the track and on the strip... apart from that theres nothing in it!

V6 will take it, but not a country mile, like the price tag would make you believe!

V6 will have more grunt throughout the gears and better traction off the line. Pound for pound - the 182 is the better option.

ive had both. V6 MK 255 and 182 with cup packs. In a straight line the V6 is much faster, feels a lot faster too. in the bends I was more confident with the 182 and as such it was faster.

.5 of a second ?? not for a mk2 v6, mk1 maybe but a mk2 is 5.6sec and a 182 is 7 sec if ya lucky.... ive had both and still have me mk2 v6..... V6 is totaly different drive and much quicker allround

agree with the confidence part... V6 is scarry and needs respect

mk1 v6 6.2 sec to 60 146 top end
mk2 v6 5.6 sec to 60 153 top end
182 cup 6.8 -7 sec to 60 139 top end

or near abouts

Pound for pound the 182 is the better option IF all you care about is performance. If you want a car that is sensational to look at and to drive and leaves you grinning from ear to ear after every drive then pound for pound the V6 is the much better option.

As for straight line speed, the V6 will be faster but there really won't be much difference.

if pound for pound is all you care about then go turbo a corsa lol

having owned a 172 cup and both vee's now..the vee in a straight line is a seriously quick car, in corners in the dry..it can also be much quicker..you just have to know how to do it..

its not just...flick flick..as in the 182...its slow in..find the rear traction..and wedge the throttle...muchos fun'os! :):)

cheers for all your help guys. i do appreciate that the v6 is going to be quicker but i cant see it leavin me for dead somehow. i wasnt relating the .5 of a second to those two cars. i meant it just in general. i never look at 0 to 60 as it means absolutely nothing in the real world. 0 to 100mph is much more realistic to look at or say 40 to 100 etc etc. the v6 does look awesome tho ill admit that!

5.6 secs if you are very lucky. Try 5.8 for V6 and 6.8 for Cup. So a second difference to 60 and maybe 2-3 secs on a good day to 100mph. 8-10 Grand more for a new V6 compared with 182, I would rather spend that amount on a 111R or 350Z. In other words, if you want a wide Clio with 2 seats, go V6. If you want cheap all round fun, 182. The V6 is not worth the money in my opinion. I do think they look good, but not as good as the other cars I mentioned.

JACKO CUP 172!

the vee is much quicker. when me and den v6 go for a rant around he leaves me after about 60..

People go on about how fast BMW M3's are, yet they are only about 1s to 60mph and 3s to 100mph faster than a V6 255, the V6 255 is faster than a 182 by the same margin as the M3 is to the V6 255 ;)

A new M3 costs £15,000's more than a new V6 255, so does that mean that the M3 is not worth it too then??

So by your logic, if you want an M3........buy a V6 255 instead, as they are £15k cheaper and only 3s to 100mph slower or better still get a 182 as they are only a further 3s to 100 slower and have room for shopping too lol ;) :)

you either get the vee or you dont..

if you dont...im not arsed.. and anyone who loves them wont be either I love mine to bits and can safely say...the prices are doing the exact opposite of the 182 prices lol

when you get a 997 gt3 owner who owns a vee too, saying the vee is more fun..you know its a special car :)

Much better cars available for the cash than a V6 although I don't think you can dispute their speed on the right day versus the good old RS 1.2 look-a-likes.

V6 is a very special car...nice if you can afford one and only need two seats.

However....being poor l have to have a 182 Cup and l wouldn't swap it for anything up to £20k :)

It depends on your criteria though doesn't it? Me? I wanted something to replace my VX220 with that had more creature comforts (should that be some creature comforts), was as quick (it's faster), rear wheel drive, 2 seats, and was special (354 produced).

It ticked all the right boxes for me, so the decision wasn't too hard. Do i wish i had bought a different Clio / 350Z / R26 / etc? Nope - but the R26 was rather good fun.

Everyone buys a car for their own reasons...

We are talking about Clios here. M3's are a completely different car. You get a shed load more in a M3 for the money than you do in a V6. The performance from the M3 is fantastic and you get 4 seats, a large boot and BMW quality. You also get one of the most well-sorted saloons on the road.
V6 - hhmmmmm let me think.....you get a nice V6 and lots of kit. Oh yeah, you also get that famous Renault build quality and 2 seats.
Bad comparison there mate. My point is the price doesn't justify the car and I would buy the 330 anyway.
I do like the Vees, they are very exotic and you don't see them everyday but I would go elsewhere with £25K in my pocket. Maybe you should give me a shot in yours.

Subway - V6 - Supercar? Ha ha dream on mate!

As you already said in your above comment - that's a bad comparison. An M3 and clio v6 are totally different cars, which one you choose to go for depends on what you want from a car. I see loads of M3's on the road, I'd personally rather have the v6 right now, so it may be Renault, but it looks damn sexy and it's rare! And I don't really want or need a big car at the moment, and rarely use the back seats!

In my experience the V6 was quicker in a straightline and around corners, but that's down to me liking the far better grip a mk2 V6 has over a 182. In the real world, the two cars will be fairly similar, but then you could say that about almost anything. I had a play with an E46 M3 t'other day and didn't loose, and they have a far better power to weight than me.

There are two sorts of arguements, theoretical statistical type ones and real experience. Both are pretty good fun ;)

Indeed, it's mostly about real experience.
Power to weight ain't everything though. It comes down to the driver and whether you are 'playing' on public roads. Some people might feel there is a limit and will not want to end up with a squashed car. That's not down to the car. For example, an experienced driver in a 182 would be able to hold off a V6 driver that can't drive a real wheel drive car.

cheers then everyone. sorry if i created a small arguement. i know the v6 is faster. was just curios thats all. its not often you come across a v6 on the road and just wondered how id fair against it. like some of you said it really depends on whos drivin when your on the public road but i dont doubt for a min that in a straight line the big v will get away.

  MINI JCW
A v6 would tame a 182 all day loooong!

Supercar vs Hothatch? oh please ;)

Supercar??? I dont think so. it does 0-100 in over 15 secs, slightly better than hot hatch performance.

If a V6255 was behind a R26 (and they are both going for it) then it isnt going to get past it now is it??

No arguements, just a good topic!

If anything, it's impressive that you get a choice within the Clio range (or did) from 1.2 all the way to V6. You can't say that about many hatchbacks.

i couldnt agree more gaz. its not a supercar. its an awesome lookin car but its a long way off a supercar. my dads got an e46 m3 and it once made a bloke on the motorway in a v6 look very silly. especially after 100mph!

Yes - and by some margin. :D

I've been overtaken a few times on meets, where the extra power of the Mk2 V6 just pushes it along the straights.

Then you've got the looks, the rarity, the all-round package of something special - which all adds to the tick-boxes of V6s being a great car.

If I was lucky enough to spend a weekly stint on track, I certainly wouldn't consider a V6, however!
