Gave the car an oil change yesterday. She'll 5w40 and a Purflix filter

Then took it for MOT this morning 😍

Screenshot_20230524_201438_Chrome.jpg

I did give the car a wash but it's already f**king filthy after kicking it's head in for 100 miles. One issue which started after my MOT, ABS light is on and the squib clacks when turning right. Gonna take a spare squib I to work tomorrow

I need to put my new steering wheel on anyway so I might as well sort 3 issues at the same time. My clock spring has been out of calibration ever since I've owned the car🤣

So the other day after my MOT the ABS light randomly came on and the squib started to make a weird clack. Annoying, but gave me a good idea of what it's like with no ABS or TC. Because it's currently on s**t tyres it drove awful, I can't wait to see the back of these! (If anyone has a decent set of 205/45/16 please message me)

All the codes

20230526_144410.jpg

I originally thought it was the squib at fault, I know the angle sensor has been uncalibrated ever since I bought the car but thats never bothered me

I set to ripping the old squib off and the old angle sensor, just to see if I could trick the car with a fresh angle sensor

20230526_152747.jpg

I used an old shitty squib with cut wires, it'll become more apparent why I did in a minute (I just taped these up for now)

20230526_152908.jpg

A quick code check... Did it work?

20230526_155850.jpg

No, but oh well it was worth a try anyway. Gonna need CLiP to reset the angle value on the steering angle dangle sensor

The main reason I was in there was to try and rid the car of all it's codes. Whilst in there I wanted to get rid of the awful coach steering wheel

Before

After

20230526_160123.jpg

Feels so much better with the smaller wheel in, big thanks to @scalino65 as the wheel and boss are in great nick. I need to order a wheel cover to stop it going all manky

I washed the car on Tuesday before the MOT on Wednesday morning but it's already filthy!

So after the let down at Cadwell I parked the car up and set about diagnosing what had gone wrong. It was clear as day to me that there had to be an issue with the diff seal on the driver's side, the reason how was still beyond me. Getting underneath I could see what had happened

20230602_111236.jpg

It's hard to make out from that picture what had happened but the sleeve that connects the output shaft from the diff to the driveshaft has slid away from the driveshaft. It decided it wanted to be inside the gearbox, you can just about see the splines if you zoom in

20230628_150718.jpg

Shaft coming out. Once out I twatted the sleeve down the splines until it was hard up against the shaft like so. It had moved at least 10mm

20230628_151958.jpg

Which had caused this to happen

20230628_151935.jpg
20230628_152018.jpg

The seal is 1 piece, the sleeve had smashed the inner part out of it which caused the oil to piss out

Old seal out. Gave everything a bit of a clean after this picture

20230628_151914.jpg

New seal in

20230629_113237.jpg

I took the driveshaft to my dad's on the weekend and he blobbed a few tacks on there with the trusty old farmers arc welder. It will win no awards for cosmetics but it will definitely hold

20230703_143754.jpg

All back together again, I filled the gearbox with ELF NFJ this time, I do have 4 quarts of MTL but I didn't want to throw away £100 over and over and I dont trust the seal not to leak yet. Once it's had a few hundred miles on it I might consider it.

Before I started it up I sprayed a liberal amount of brake cleaner all over my exhaust heat wrap. The seal is right in front of where the manifold comes down above the subframe, when I sprayed it down it came off brown so I'm glad I cleaned it off. Very minimal smoke even after letting it get up to temp

20230704_113544.jpg

Now moving onto the next issue

Rust🥲 That will be a job for winter then

Was it an old or refurbished driveshaft then Kyle?

Absolute wetter.

Did you get a refund on the failed shaftec ones or didn't they want to know?

Well the seal is still holding so I treated it to a wash

If everything goes to plan I should be picking up some new track wheels at the end of the month. One of my TD 1.2 has a slight crack near the spigot but I can't tell how far it goes towards where the nuts go, not worth the stress

Still need to sort the wheel angle sensor value with CLiP to get rid of the ABS, TC and SERV lights. Heading down to Donington on the 21st so might stop by @MicKPM 👀🤣

Some of you may know I'm a proper pervert for wheels. Like to the point I have wheels in my garage that don't actually fit my car anymore

So naturally I bought even more🤣

20230724_092624.jpg

Braid Acropolis 7J x 15" and 60.1cb. possibly the most rare wheels I own now

The offset means they stick out a lot more than the 2118. More importantly they clean the Brembos with ample room!

Even with the spacers removed they have loads of space!

For a second time my upper alternator got a crack in it. Speaking to a few people it's quite common for it to happen

20230725_161854.jpg

This was why... I've used up all my good fortune with that!

Took off the manual tensioner rod to clean it up. I ended up using all new hardware to mount it as the bottom bolt had stripped slightly too

Got a few more jobs to do before CSF. Mainly alignment and ABS light turning off @Brigsy I might need your expertise of using CLiP to sort my issue🤣

Do you want an even rarer set of wheels that wont fit and be of absolute no use to you??

Got my AR1 put on my Braid Wheels for track

20230811_170721.jpg

Driving the car in the rain has been eventful, especially when leaving the motorway. Coming off the sliproad and your brakes being piss wet isn't the best so I got some 100mm bungs to put in for when I'm not on track

20230801_163539.jpg
20230801_163449.jpg

Got my 2118s powdercoated amphasite and had some Rainsport 5s put on

20230810_115902.jpg
20230810_115853.jpg

The finish on them is mint

Finally after 5 years I have the car how I want it and I can mostly just enjoy it and not have to do more mad s**t. I still want some coilovers as the rake is insane and I want to build a fruitier engine but that's all now. Mainly small jobs

Looks so much better than the cream/white they were before with baked on brake dust

Shim the rear stub axles so you’ve either got parallel or slight toe in. It’ll help the turn in massively.

Some stuff called shim steel is your friend for this.
Aye I've got a few camber shims in the garage, will have a f**k about and see if I can get it anywhere near. Might get the axle stands and string out for that like

Changed the box oil today for fresh redline MTL

Installed a cruise control bracket that @Louis made me

20230823_153025.jpg

I dug into why I had errors for the angle sensor too. Turns out the f**king plug was unplugged and just clipped to the side of the squib. Not even sure how that's happened. Changed the squib because the cruise wiring was chuffed

First time I've never had a light on the dashboard on this in 5 years

20230823_170714.jpg

Gave my manifold wrap a quick haircut too. It was dangling down and it looked a bit unsightly

20230823_134745.jpg

Jobs to do tomorrow

- Hoover out
- Wash car

Jobs for Friday

- Pack car

Feels surreal this year because CSF has come around and my car hasn't been in a million pieces🤣 (I've jinxed it now and it's going to break)
