Mot Failure - Opinion please

  2001 X Reg 172 PH1
Hi

Failed MOT , due to O/S Gator split. Quoted £59.95 to replace , plus £29.95 to have tracking done afterwards.

Also an advisory in that the tyre valves are perished. I had a complete new set of tyres 18months ago and these were replaced , im assuming they shouldnt really be perished yet?

Just want an opinion as to whether this all sounds about right , Formula 1 autocenter doing the work.

Thanks

could be right

if it was the inner gator then the cost would be alot more

I don't see why an inner gaitor would be more unless the part is more expensive (which i doubt)

Valves should always be replaced with tyres. That's quite odd that they have "perished". Did you leave wonder wheels on them or something?

Doing a gaitor is quite easy. you just need to dismantle the suspension and remove the driveshaft, price is certinally fair inc parts. As for the tracking- It is certinally possible to take apart the whole suspension setup, and put it all back together without adjusting the track rod. I'd be interested to know why they think tracking is necessary unless it's out atm.

quote for the gaiter seems reasonable (have they told you what their hourly rate is? i'd guess the gaiter's £10-£20)

it is common practise to check/adjust tracking after having carried out any work that disturbs the front suspension/steering - might get away without though

what do the tyre valves look like to you? no 'need' to do them if it's an advisory - they might just be being anal - have a look and use your own judgement?
