Mwn's BG 182 Project thread.

  Yozz'd up 182
Just a thread to track progress in one place and to be able to see how the car progresses.

Got it 1 year ago exactly at 19.

It was a Cat D write off, needed the belts doing but was only just on 19k miles.
No cup packs which didnt overally bother me but the spoiler would of been nice.

Cost me just over 3k and at that price i couldnt say no.

This was it the day i got it, after putting my headunit in.

First small update was badge spraying!

Ford graphite grey. With the hope of doing the wheels at a later date.

Then my private plate and a little sticker

Fcs was coming up and i didnt want my lovely precurbed wheels letting the rest of the car down.

So over a bank holiday i did them the same as the badges.

Then it was FCS the first car show/meet id ever been too. It was nice being parked on the stand with a car i was happy with (at the time). Met a couple of nice members and then headed home.

After FCS i started to think about further modding.

I have not got any picture of it but i bought a yozza and decat off a member of here.

Getting the standard exhaust off intact was the hardest bit. Also had to bodge the exhaust brackets.

Random picture from around that time.

After this i decided as prices were dropping fast i probably wouldnt sell the car on. And so may aswell have some fun with. I set myself a target to get a trackday done in 2011.

My mrs bought me these for my birthday after complaining for so long that my car looked like a tractor.

FK konigsports. The extra cost for the ajustable damping i thought would be usefull if i ever really got into track days.

Some picture fitted.

Then it went to danny at 519 for the belts doing after a silt whine developed from an aux tensioner. Just telling me they were due.

After that i noticed the front pads were running low. I doubt they have ever been changed.

Thought i may aswell go the whole hog. Put some new mintex pads in the back, and have bought these for the fronts.

Just waiting for some DS2500's

Also bought some valver wheels off a member on here and am currently in the middle of refurbing and spraying to use as track wheels.

Have also bought a skoda splitter and tow eye and have also changed the badge colour again.

Here is the car as it stands tonight.

Looking at that picture it could do with spacers. But they arent as bad in person.

  Yozz'd up 182
About halfway on each id guess. Could go alot lower but i want it too still be practical as the roads in my village are awful haha.

  Yozz'd up 182
Yeah! thats a good idea actually.

Its just about to hit 25k a year on so im doing around 6k miles a year.

Nothing really.

  Yozz'd up 182
I think though id rather go for purpose over looks, so either an RS tuner or save up for some buckets or steering wheel.

Although if a BG one came up cheap enough ;)

  Yozz'd up 182
Well £60 on ebay i couldnt say no.

Only problem is they dont sell black gold in a can so may have to get the compressor and grav gun out.

i have just spotted my bg at the side of yours at fcs, BG55 GRX, thats when needster owned it, then sold it to me in sept last year,
and it'll be at the fcs again, this yr,:approve:.

  Yozz'd up 182
Yeah it was needster's at the time. Its a lovely car, put mine to shame being parked next to it haha.

Got the cup spoiler all painted up and fitted now.

The finish isnt great but it will do for the moment until i decided to have my front bumper resprayed and il get the spoiler done at the same time.

Fitted the braided lines today and gave the fluid a change to supe blue.

My own verdict:

The change isnt as big as alot of people make it out to be, if your fluid is in a resonable state anyway.

Normal driving i wouldnt say you can tell that much of difference as the force you push the pedal wouldnt make the standard lines expand anyway.

When hard breaking, the lines do make a difference, the pedal pushes back harder than before is the best way to describe it.

I decided to fit the lines without new disks and pads for a while too see the difference with only lines.

Are they worth it? For road use probably not.I have not tried standard or braided on track but from what people say on here the difference between is more obvious then.

Next on the list is pads and disks, just need to get round to getting some pads :)

clio's coming along ,

i have to agree 110% with you about the lines, i fitted goodridge lines+ATE superblue , a bit gutted really

i expected to be slamming on the brakes, ...and my mate shooting through the fecking windscreen.

and i had new disc's+pads.. on my to do soon list is DS2500 see if they are better than the DS2000, iv got in at the moment
so then there mite be a chance of my mate cracking his ugly mush on mi window, lol.........:banghead:...........:argue:............:race:

A couple of bits are just general maintenance but now have pads so can fit pads and disks. Then something ive been looking at for abit ;)

Will do a full write up on saturday night :)

Right update

First thing first was fitting the new pads a discs.

Went for the classic DS2500's and Brembo HC discs. I can now see why.

Fitting went easier than expected. First time there were no stick or rusty nuts or bolts to throw an easy task into a nightmare.

IMAG0030.gif

Verdict. They are brilliant. After bedding in using the ten 60-15 mph methos i let them cool for a while then went out to give them a test ;)
People often on here say that from cold they are awful, i think thats alot of jumping on the band wagon. What people probably mean to say is they are ok from cold and just get better, alot better, when warm.

Best way to decribe them is awe inspiring. One of the top mods ive done on the car.

Next up was something ive wanted for a long time but didnt have the money. I drove up to Trowell services to meet timi of here to pick up a little treat for myself.

IMAG0028-1.jpg

A picture during fitting.

After fitting i placed some grey carpet down to neaten the back up but didnt get any pictures.

Have to say i feel like it has stiffened the car up slightly. This may be a placebo effect though.

I fitted it in a rush over the saturday as i was i was just hyped about it. So over summer i will probably take the back plastics out and strip the rear properly.

IMAG0029-1.jpg

Another thing i got half done over the weekend was starting to uprate my exhaust mounts as they are shagged.

Went down the power flex route and this is one with the rubber just cut out and the powerflex mount pushed in. Will hopefully sort that out this week or next weekend.

IMAG0031-1.jpg

Short term plan currently is get some tyres for the 15's , finish painting them green and then get a track day done over summer.

Long term plan - Buckets and harnesses when money allows, Hopefully some wrap around ones or something along the lines of recaro spgs. Time will tell.

is it me, or is it kicking out a lot of blue smoke in that vid of the Yozza?

  Yozz'd up 182
Pretty sure its just condensation/water. Only does it when cold and never had any problems.

Also i think its the video making it look bluey. Its just white in person.

  Yozz'd up 182
Small spy camera arrived that people have bought on here.

Small video of it attached the car. For some reason youtube killed the quality and the sound.

Minor update, Tyres arrived this morning. Had been looking for used one but as new ones were only just over £150 delivered i decided i may aswell get them new and just scrub them in myself.

IMAG0054.gif

So things to do now are.

Fit Tyres.
Scrub them in.
Finish painting the wheels.
Book a track day.

Then just see what comes up and when.

Buckets and harnesses eventually.

  Yozz'd up 182
Also does anybody have any idea how much getting the rear cage powdercoated would cost?

  Yozz'd up 182
Sprayed and lacquered 2 more, just 1 left to do.

Looking at booking the trackday at bedford on the 20th but not sure yet.
