Picked this up last week from Will down in York.

Sadly Will ventured into some deep water and the clio's engine didnt take too kindly to it, so it's not running at the moment.

The spec however is this...from memory

47k Miles 55 Plate
Gaz GHA Coilovers
K&N Panel Filter
RS192 Full System with De-cat
Full Flocked dash, centre console and steering cowling
OMP Suede Wheel
Cobra Monaco Pro S seats in black with OMP 4 point Harnesses.
Stripped out pretty much everything.
Team Dynamic Pro Race 3 wheels in gloss black
172 cup alternator set up with air con removed

The Plan:

Get it to a more usable state, put things back together properly as theres a few screws missing and clips here and there, think Will got carried away with the weight saving ;)

Full Engine Rebuild from Fred@BTM

Once the engine is ran in and I'm happy with the car I'm going to do a few track days here and there, really to enjoy the car for what it is legally without risking other peoples lives on the roads.

Enough of me waffling on...heres some pics

When I bought it, it had this wheel on which was pretty worn

After 20 minutes of it being off the tow truck I'd fitted this

005-8.jpg

Since getting it back I've also been tidying up the dash install etc, Ive refitted the retaining clip for the centre console as it was loose and would rattle, also screwed up the steering cowling, fitted some dust covers on the indicator stalk and wiper stalk, fitted standard headunit with stalk control. Whilst I was on I tidied the wiring up under the dash as it can be seen on the above interior pic...not anymore, also put a gear gaitor on there to tidy it up.

039-4.jpg

Something else I did was when I bought the car I noticed lots of scratches on the dial fascia, so I took the dash top off, removed the clear plastic cover and machine polished it, a couple of 50/50's and it back in situ.

Taking it down to freds in two weeks time so going to make sure everything else is done before it goes so I can just drive it and not have any annoying rattles etc. Got a skoda splitter to go on the front too. I can't wait to drive it now!

RS 192 Exhaust now removed and going for the new BTM system, had one before and was impressed with the gains both in power and weight saving.

Also going to be putting in some 421 cat cams whilst its been rebuilt, hopefully it will crack the 190bhp mark and I can continue with my mission of 200bhp/tonne :)

Looks lovely that.

I've always been a fan of this car.

How difficult was the dash to remove by the way?

Thanks for all of the comments guys, yes I guess I love clio's, hopefully this one will survive, I'm sure It will. The problem is in around 7-8 months I cover the same mileage most do in 2-3 years, so the problems develop a little faster and then I just get my sensible head on and tell myself and everyone else that I wont own another, much to their ammusement when I rock up in another clio. I wouldnt of bought this or the trophy if they hadnt been reasonably priced though.

Like it chris! Good choice on the cams also :p

Out of interest how comfy are those seats? as seen them for decent prices on ebay.

cheers mate, Was always going to put 421's in one of my cars until k-tec brought out the 438's, however as they're ktec specific I cnt get them at cost price, so 421's is the wildest option I can run :)

As for the seats, I've only sat in them for around 10 minutes and that was when I swapped my wheel over, they dont have the most padding in them so probably not the best for long journeys, I used to have some sparco sprint's in one of my cars years ago and I travelled all over the country in it, so they werent too bad, I'd say get some if you want to keep the spending to a minimum, there are more comfier seats on the market but then you're talking £5-700 each for the seats, plus mounts, frames and harnesses.

What do you work as to do that mileage?
Work in a call centre mate, propper s**t really but it will do until I qualify as an accountant.

I just love driving mate, I can easily do 200 miles just going to hartside for a blast out, I probably do hartside 1-2 times a month for fun, then down to helmsley, plus going up and down to work, up and down to my mams, freds etc etc. Just seems to rack the miles up at an alarming rate. I did 4k miles in it the first month I bought the last bg 182 haha

Been on a 400 mile round trip today to scotland where they had no snow!!!...to pick up my new engine. The car I've got has only covered 47k miles so felt it was important to either rebuild that lump or get an engine with near enough the same miles.

Managed to get a bare engine from Adam. on here from his car he's breaking, the engine has only covered 42k and is said to have pulled the same figures on the dyno as a cammed 1*2 which ran before it.

So the plan is to send it off to BTM to give it a good check over, replace the bits and bobs that you usually do: belts, dephaser, waterpump, clutch etc and get it put in. The plan is to stick a set of cat cam 421's in, a set of ARP Head bolts then whatever else fred thinks could be changed to make sure the engine doesnt have to be touched for the next 3-4 years.

After a very bad and expensive experience with my trophy going through a dodgy 'specialist', I know I'll be leaving it in safe hands with the lads down at BTM Performance.

I'm hoping to have it on the road by march/april then take it accross to the 'ring in May, then do some track time at FCS at castle combe as I've done a previous day there with instruction and loved it.

*IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED THE WHEELS MAY BE UP FOR SALE SOON, VERY LIGHT AND LOOK GREAT*

After a ride down to RS Tuning in my mates trophy yesterday, I've decided I'm going to put this car back to a nice road spec.

I'll be removing the seats, coilovers and wheels and doing the following:

Trophy Suspension with cooksports or eibach sportline springs
Full interior with retrimmed headliner etc
182 wheels or turini's

I'll be starting to remove parts this week and get it back to a more daily useable car.

When the car goes on track I'll probably take out the rear seats and that will do me, looking for a set of trophy recaro's as well.

It looks great, mate. Can I ask what prompted the decision to make it more everyday usable rather than a more track-biased setup? :D Just being nosey!

I've been thinking about it all day since I said the above.

I've got a little saxo vtr that I'm in love with at the minute and can't bare myself to sell it when the 182 is done, so thought why not track that instead?

I may keep the 182 as it is for when it's put back on the road and see if I can live with it, thing is I've been there and done similar set ups to this 182 before and it just becomes a real drag to drive the car backwards and forwards to work, especially when it's raining heavy and it sounds like you're in a van, it just gets weary.

I'll see anyway, I'm not going to be keeping the car that long now I dont think, if I keep the saxo I'll just be going for a sensible daily derv monster and rage the saxo around tracks when I have time

Fair enough, mate - makes sense to be honest. :D Thanks for indulging my curiosity!

Funnily enough my girlfriend has an EP3 Type-R yet she often goes on about how she misses her VTR. These little hot-hatches can really get under the skin. :D

Yeah I've had many 106's and saxo's in the past before I moved onto clios, they're just so much fun and you can modify them for much cheaper and see better results for your money than you can with clio's.

I've done a lot of work on the underneaths of my saxo, but to look at it from outside it looks like a standard vtr with leather interior, however its got bigger brakes, polybushes, uprated gear linkages etc etc on the underneath so it's good. I've spent a fortune on it just to make it a mint daily runner :)

Nice pic haha

I'll be selling it at the end of the year Will I think, depends how it does out on track I guess, I'm getting itchy feet because It's just money sat there doing nothing at the minute.

I bought the GHA's ages ago through a guy on ebay. Were about £350 and had just been sat on an unused track car.

Im slightly disappointed this is going back to standard... Was so much more fun how it was! :(

Lol it's all good fun, I've learnt a lot about clio's being so indecisive, I can now do a full suspension swap in an hour lol
