My first experience of wrapping - Tuition Day!

I spent all of yesterday up in Bromborough at MDP for a vehicle wrapping tuition day, led by a professional vehicle wrapper (whose name escapes me) and the owners of MDP.

We covered all parts of the car, doors, bonnets, bumpers, wing mirrors and the roof. Just a quick demo from the guy, then we had a go at it straight away.

Here's the few photos I managed to grab during the day.

First demonstration of how to do a door, as well as how to take the handles off and wrap inside the handle recess.

I wrapped a door and wing mirror as well but I didn't manage to get a photo!

Being shown how to wrap the roof around the aerial with some release-air wrap, which doesn't trap bubbles. My mum could have wrapped a car in the stuff it was that easy to use!

They gave us a huge roll of matte black wrap and a full kit to get started, and I pinched a few of the green scraps to have a play with...

Overall it was a great day out and I'm confident with most panels now, I'll definitely be having a play with the 200.

Looks good, How much did you pay out of interest? Did you take the bumpers off to do them?

Obviously this would take a lot longer than a day to get to grips and confidence of doing a full car so do they do a more in depth course?

I did the exact same tuition day last year, really good for the price of it!

Yea, I was impressed!

In theory, there's no reason why you can't wrap a whole car after the course and a fair amount of practice, because the course taught how to do flat panels like the door and bonnet, and very curved panels like the bumpers and wing mirrors.

It's just a case of practicing what they've taught! There isn't any need for another tuition day imo, they went into everything.

Did the colour look nice? Fancy something abit different to Matt black ect what people usually go for

Why wouldn't someone pay for the doorshuts to be done??

because people don't want to pay for it, people don't pay for the door shuts to be done on a paint job which looks worse than when its a wrap with door shuts not done

Apparently it's a right ball ache as well, as you can probably imagine.

One of the guys said he wouldn't even take on a job with door shuts included because it's just so much extra time for little better aesthetics when the doors are shut; which is what 99% of people seeing the car will see.

I did this course back in January, very good course.

As said above you will just need a lot more practice to take on a whole car after the course.

My clios going to be away in the garage so I'm going to take my time and give it a go :) only materials I can lose tbh

Ill give you a Clio to practice on :p

If you provide the materials I'll pop down and have a go, unless you want something done in matte black, I've got a fair amount of that!

Vinyl wrapping, to me, is the best way to change the look of your car. The idea is that it's pretty temporary - only staying on a few years. When you get into full colour digital printed wraps that's when you can really push the boat out and it becomes better than paint.

Door shuts are a must. Any fitter who says they're too much hassle should quit their job. Wrapping with no joins or overlaps is sometimes an obstacle. You get what you pay for, and don't be fooled by it - it isn't as easy as it looks guys!

No wonder I'm biased because I work for a vehicle wrapping firm. I can wrap to a certain extent but I'm really a creative art worker

any questions I'll be happy to answer
