My lucky day...

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
Ok as alot of you know its was time my overdue cambelt was done.
I did a little searching about and found that the cheapest cambelt price within 20 miles was 295 pounds

Along with this as you know, my wheel bearing (rear drivers) was knackerd.

Same place said it would be 120 pound to fix...

So were up to a total of 315 quid! GUTTED!

Then, one night i went out with one of my mate who ive not seen for a while, he owns a garage worked for the rac for 7 years and did mechanical engineering in the army (point being - he knows his s**t)

.... He did the lot for 150 quid

Cambelt
aux belt
wheel bearing
inside and outside valet
deliverd it back to me (20 miles)

he brought back my old cambelt and it did need changing but it wasnt a "ticking timebomb" as described lol

anyway im happy and er... no you cant have his numbep :p

I thought you had woken up without ginger hair.

£150 is good though. Did he use genuine parts?

Doubt it for that money unless he bought parts? But I doubt it very much. Probably not changed the idler/tensioner as that might means it was a waste of time. And you can't tell the condition of a timing belt or any other belt by that matter by just by looking at it.

For £150 theres no way he could have used genuine parts and done tensioners and imo its the tensioners that are the problem when it comes to snapped belts, not the actual belt its self, so bit of a waste of £150 tbh

because even the simplist of person can work out that its impossible to buy all the parts and get it done for that price

Judging from previous posts he hasn't payed anymore than 150 for the lot or he'd be moaning like f**k, its only worth spending his money on colour coding not keeping the car going .

Calm down Fizz, jesus.

£150 for Genuine cam and aux belt kit fitted is impossible I think. Im sure the Cambelt kit is circa £100, aux belt alone is £15 IIRC without tensioners!

the guy hu did it for me is my mate, he basically charged me for the parts

and silver clio... yeh i no rofl

What I'm asking is, did he change the tensioners, not just the belt? As thats just a waste of time.

The guy has a 1.6 16v, maybe the parts aren't as much as the 172. Also maybe his m8 can get the parts cheaper.

And I don't know what the big deal about these tensioners are. I've had loads of cars where I only changed the cam belt alone & never had one snap.

Ever owned a Renault? lol.

As far as I was aware the Clio DOHC engines are pretty similar in that aspect (probably a little bit cheaper but its a similar process with the locking tools etc..)

Is the 1.6 16v a DOHC as my 1.2 16v was a SOHC..

I paid £200 for my cambelt change on my 1.2 16v using genuine parts at a garage so £150 for a mate is quite acheivable.
