Milage: 56,612
MPG: 31.8
Money spent this week:-
-£50 on petrol
-£10 on carpet
-£120 on inlets
so this weekend i thought i would try an experiment, because as a next car im thinking on getting a 2 seater so i thought y not see how having to seats in my current car goes as a trial, also has its advantages to making the car lighter
aprrox 25-30kg
so here is how it went..
1stly i had taken a 120mm insulation board from work for chop down to size for the rear of the car, reasons for this is it flattens off the rear to make it look alot nicer than bare ridget metal etc, also is very light and still acts as a sound barrier so the car shouldnt become amy louder as alot of people say when they strip the rear seats out. also used my works tools and dads tools to remove rear seats, isofix bar, rear bench, boot flooring.
here is the carpet i bought for £10 pounds, just went to my nearest carpet place and asked for the darkest grey or black scrap carpet they had, this was the darkest they had but i could still see it working plus it was only a tenner so y not!! lol. got this as 2meter squared piece. bought carpet to cover insulation board and to look alot neater and also help on the noise factor
below is the inlets i bought,... bad news with these (read on at the bottom
)
so off we went, removed seats etc so used pen and tape measure to draw up my cutting line to fit exactly and as neatly as poss in the car
and then cut the board into two pieces to get it in, had to cut it as i have in the picture to keep structor, if i had cut exactly in half then the insualtion board would most like crack/snap down the spare wheel whole,
once the board was in and was the best fit i then market out on the carpet using abit of scrap board as a pen lol, marked up 1500mm square which gives me enough to play with once in the car.
once it was placed as best as possible, i started to cut the carpet so i could get it neatly into te corners and to be able to fold them down the side of the board. and yess... below are some metal snips lol, do a great job for cutting carpet
once carpet was cut neatly and just the right size to fold down the sides i carried on to do so, but found it not so good, just didnt look very neat tbh. so i ended up just cutting the carpet to the shape of the inside of the car as best i could as you see below. and here are the end results! simples, took me about and hour and a half to do from scratch and only cost me so used pen and tape measer to draw up my cutting line to fit neatly in the car so used pen and tape measer to draw up my cutting line to fit neatly in the car £10
been driving the car for a couple days now with the rear stripped, all is still the same and looking good! Isnt any louder inside when driving either, probly quiter if anything lol. performance wise, the car does accel quicker but not loads, benifits mostly cornering. corners alot better! rear seems to be abit more lively and obv braking is slightly improved. if you want to get an idea of the performance its like going from having 2 people in your car to just being you on your own, just feels like a person down. but tbh im happy with the results! looks good imo and goes better and all for a tenner so cant complain. havent missed the rear seats much this weekend either, tis also a good shag pad
lol!! plenty of room to play in the back lol!
..now, when it came to fitting the matched inlets i had bought i was very gutted to find that the inlets i have recieved are from a 182 and i obv have a ph2 172 and they dont fit, at the time of purchasing them i did not know this so am gutted as i wanted to up the power aswell as loose weight at once so i benifited the feel of the performance but sadly wasnt able to.
i am away on holidday this week so there wont be an update this coming week, sorry guys
lol i
i also still have these 182 matched inlets and they are for sale if any1 is interested!!
hope all this helps!
cheers, piers.
