Italian 3.2 V6
# IMPORTANT UPDATE #
ok so i had to use my car as a one off for work, unfortunatly it was to hike 303miles to london for the week, west drayton be exact. and to my suprise JMS were 450yards from were i was working so i booked the LY182 in for a 12k service as it was due one. i like to have it serviced with a 12k service every 6k miles to make sure shes running super healthy!! also there was the fog light to be replaced and the steering to be lubed up as there was a creak coming from a dry bit of plastic within the steering colum. also i thought as im there ill get a map done aswell as getting the 182 dynod to see what she was making.
so popped in on the wed night for a chat with tom (james was on hol as this time) and he had a quick look at the car. opened the bonnet to show him the bay and to his discust there was a horribly set up induction kit and CAF lol. just so uno im clueless when it comes to engines and obv bought the car with this already attached. below are some pics of the caf which was removed..
the way it was positioned and routed from the BMC CDA induction kit was awful tbh. tom says it will of been strangling to suction for the filter meaning it wouldnt be performing aswell as it should be. plus the orignal OEM CAF was left in making a mess aswell as the ????? had been left in. so i basically decided to ask tom to get rid of it all and fit there V6 box and road filter to sort it all out. i kept the hillpower elbow as it was about the only decent thing fitted to the previouse induction kit.
then we went out for a ride in it as i was unsure if it was performing correctly also had been told when i bought the car it had been superchipped but there was no proof so was unsure if it was even true tbh. Tom seemed impressed considering the state of the induction kit fitted and said it pulled nice and strong which was nice to hear. he also added he thinks it has been superchipped as the 5k surge seemed better than std.
so then we got back to the JMS quaters and he took me out in his RS2 182. i have to say, i was very very impressed! iv been out in a 182 with cams, exhaust system, induction, stripped out etc etc (running over 190bhp) and just wasnt very impressive tbh.. i wouldnt waste money going down that route. i didnt think it was as quick or as special.. just like any other boy racer mods.
The RS2 on the other hand actually felt 190+bhp, sounded bloody awesome and looks the shizz.. really is a nice and smart piece of kit. very well thought about. it pulls so well from low down in the rev range non stop to the redline, basically has the 5k surge that youd find on a reg 182 but at any point in the rev range. i also love the key fact that it simply just fits straight on with no hastle and nothing needs to be done to it down the line unlike itbs etc. the only things that itb's wins over the rs2 for me would be the dramatic noise but thats it.
tbh, for the money and practacality of the RS2, its a no-brainer. the best and only modification for anyone wanting near the 200bhp mark and easy the best value big mod out there today. honsitly it baffles me that it hasnt already been done before now! JMS, youve hit gold with this product and thats a FACT!
also, i must say. tom and james are genuinly really really passionate about these Clio RS. so much knowladge and drive is unbelievable. i admire them alot for what there doing and have done so far in there business. nicest guys and really do give you piece of mind that your cars in good trust worthy hands. Good luck to them not that they need it as there gona be expanding an office to dubai next year there doing that welll already! im sure of it lol.
Anyway, back on track.. thursday came, the day the 182 was booked in to get serviced and V6 box fitted. then it was planned to have it remaped and dynod on the friday. later that day i came to pick the car up on the night expecting to be happy as larry with the car etc. but to my horror i arrived to find that "French Car-nection" the french car specialist who the previous owner off here had got to do the major service has not replaced the aux belt and had fitted wrong! causing the tensioner to sease up and come loose, causing it to constantly rub on the aux belt!!
pic below of the old aux belt etc.
above you can see on the aux belt, were the tensioner (also above, the spring thing) had been rubbing on the belt!! this means since owning the car, i and my better half have been driving the car with this happening, and we have coverd over 11k in the LY182 now and have been sooo soo lucky it hasnt snapped and f**ked the engine!!! plus to my horror that it wasnt spotted in the last service when having the sump replaced!! so to say the least i was very angry and so bloody GUTTED!! one that this had happend and that i was going to miss out on there map and dyno as i wasnt able to afford and have the time for it all to be done!
anyway. tom and james (james had arrived back form hol at this point) said they could squeeze me in on the friday to replace the aux belt etc and sort it out properly with the genuin renault bit and bobs!! so MASSIVE thanks for that guys. i really didnt want to chance a 300miles trip home with the aux belt in that condition.
so tootled back to my digs scared s**tless it might snap on me until friday.
Friday came and again, tootle back to JMS to drop it off before work and let them comence on with sorting the car out to how it should of been. i finished work at 12 so hung about round there garage while they finised the car off and had a good banta with them, top guys! brilliant crack lol. once done i was a very happy chap. they ran through and explained aswell as showed me everything that had been done and had been wrong with the aux belt in the 1st place. was very confident they had done a top job and was looking forward to driving the LY182 with no worries and to simply injoy the long journy back home worry free!
here are some pics form the day and todays pics from a fresh clean in sunny weather
bumber off to fit aux belt
new V6 box fitted and bay cleared up form the prev induction kit mess.
car back together looking the dogs b****cks
JMS's check list for there 12k service which was carried out.
and some fresh pics form todays
Car is sitting just above 40k and im perfect working oder!!
also, since the service and aux belt and V6 airbox being fitted the is running so much better. feels lovely and healthy. the V6 airbox makes the car rev so much more freely and does feel alot more alive. as above i think half of this was to do with the s**tty previouse setup strangling the airbox as tom as originaly said.
Again, big massive huge thanks to tom and james for there helpa and service! really couldnt recomend them enough! top bunch of blokes who are really going to well in what they love!
PSJ.
