my ph1 172 project (not running write at all) HELP PLZ ?

Hi
I brought a ph1 sport recently for a very very gd price admitidly i new it had problems but i whent ahead with it.

At the moment ive just brought

:SERVICE KIT
:CAMBELT KIT
:WATER PUMP
:CLUTCH

have not fitted anything yet.

but somethink tells me its something else can anyone help at all thanks.

First off, what exhaust has it got on it? When were the belts last changed? Is the dephaser original?

Write were do I start I paid £600 all in which is the reason why I've jumped at it because the condition of interior e.x I could make bk on parts automatically no it's been sat writing in a yard for about 14months picked it up yesterday and rear disks were completely seized took half hour to work the hand. Break to get it. On the recovery truck Anyway.

I ve seen a though threads on here about the dephaser pully don't no much at. All about this but from what I've heard it quite expensive ????

Shell I change cambelt tensioners, service it water pump change and see. How it. Is or does this sound more expensive e.x ?????

Another 1 of the 100's of threads... 'I brought a cheap 172, its fucked, I want to fix it up cheap, my mates brothers, sisters, mums cousin is a bus mechanic so we can do the cambelt change easily'

Sorry had alot of rushing around today been a night mare anyway to your questions exhaust looks completely original belts from service history have never been changed and dephaser has not been changed.

Well they'll need changing as an absolute priority. The cambelt kit is circa £110 and the dephaser about £155. Unless you have all the correct locking tools (another £150) you're best visiting a specialist. Please don't attempt it without these as you will screw up the timing. As said though, literally hundreds of threads discussing all that on here so do a few searches and have a read.

I Decided as Ive finished work early to change spark plugs and coil pack ht leads e.x . On removal of top inlet I noticed it has a gasket and it had a load of gasket sealant on the inlet.

Do I need gasket sealent or is the gasket ok to seal bk up ?

Post a picture of the gasket. It's metal so shouldn't need changing unless it looks damaged.

Don't attempt to change the cambelt yourself as you need special tools. Take it to Fred at BTM who is in Birmingham.

And it's right not write.

I've got a Renault specalist doing the work on the car in next though days he has done several cambelts on 172/182 and I have no doubt he knows what he's doing so with abit of look wont be a dephasser pulley as what I've read its a fairly expensive road to go down but if it is will defenatly have to be done no matter the price.

I've got the parts fairly cheap through traders card

Sorry if I've not read this properly, but if you are getting your belts changed you'd be a fool not to do the dephaser at the same time... If you are doing it then I'll bugger off out of this thread.

If youve got a Renault specialist looking at the car surely they will advise you what needs replacing.

My advice, Break it for parts, Buy a 172 with receipt for cambelt / dephaser, Your going to spend £400 on belts, More on pads & other bits, You can pick up a decent one for £1500.

I wouldn't bother because he's asked for help but not listened to a single word of advice.

Loooooool I was asking for advice of what do you think was wrong with it.
I have listend to all advice given just havnt had chance to comment bk on everything.

2day a trip to Renault direct and I am £205 out of pocket.
Dephaser pulley brought.

i dont understand how people can mix brought and bought up! im no spelling expert but they have 2 diffrent meanings!
