My Ph1 172

  225 Cup & Williams
Thought id start a project thread and put pics up as i slowly make changes to it lol. I bought it for £1300 with 115,000 miles on the clock and nearly a full renault service history about 3 months ago and it's in a good condition for it's age but there's bits and peices that need tidied up. Needs the cam and aux belts changed and a good service hopefully get that done in january along with a refurb for the wheels.

Mods so far:

Itg panel filter
Samco silicone induction bend
6000k H.i.d's
Silvervision bulbs all round
Ph2 rear lights
Fabia front splitter
Aero wipers
x4 Toyo t1r's (if that counts as a mod)
Cup spoiler (not fitted yet)

Mod's to come:

Cup spoiler once it's sprayed
Coilovers maby not 100% on that
Rs tuning remap

Enjoy :D

Thats what i thought. The guy from the garage that i bought it from said he wanted rid of it asap as he does'nt like selling cars like them thats why he punted it so cheap, I wasnt complaining :D.

maybe my eyes are wrecked or those wheels are super clean, but are they 15s or 16s!?

  225 Cup & Williams

thats good for 1300 man you did well there haha,

About the coilovers definately go for them, mine has 35mm on just springs and does its job and helps out with the bodyroll abit but it looks nowhere near as good as coilovers :)

Good job!

^^ thanks mate. Still undecided on the coilovers tbh cant really be bothered with the harsh ride quality of them might go for springs i dont know.

Update: Got some Eibach Sportlines and a Powerflex dogbone mount to go on tomorrow will get some pics up over the weekend.

  225 Cup & Williams
Got the Sportlines fitted along with the Powerflex dogbone mount and what a difference these have made probably lowered the car by 30mm the ride height is just how I wanted it to be, a lot less bodyroll now and feels really planted when giving it the beans on the b roads where as before it was quite twitchy on the back end. The Powerflex mount has made more of a difference than I thought it would tbh the gear changes feel so much smoother and less notchy two of the best mods for a 172 imo. :D

looking good how are you finding the ride with the sportlines fitted now? I've got some KTR coilovers and although I like the stance its a bit to harsh with the roads round my way :(

  225 Cup & Williams
The ride hasnt really changed all that much mate obviously it's a bit stiffer now but there really isnt a huge difference from standard.

  225 Cup & Williams
Cheers man ehh I fancy matched inlets and a rs tuning remap I want to get the wheels refurbed first though along with getting the dents out and the rear arches have started to bubble too. Ran out of ideas after that mate haha.

  225 Cup & Williams
Yeah i've read a few good reviews about the whiteline arb mate not really bothered about one tbh i hardly ever use the car and when a do i dont really drive it hard.

Totally forgot about this thread. Well it's been an expensive few months for me with this car which has tried my patience and was so close to being broken for parts but I couldn't find the courage to rip it apart as it's in such good condition. The problems started when one of the cambelt pulleys broke apart and frayed the belt and resulted in bent valves and some minor scores to the bores in the head this was mostly my fault though as it was due for the belts to be changed and I kept putting it off because of the cost also to rub salt in the wound I had bought all the parts for this service like the cambelt kit. aux belt kit etc :dead:. After I found out the full extent of the damage that was done I was pretty pissed to say the least and was ready to tear it apart but I was convinced to bite the bullet and sort it and this ended up with me having a 1k bill for the work that was carried out. So I received the car back after having it sorted and it ran like a dream and pulled even stronger than before until the gearbox decided it had enough so that had to be replaced ending up with a £500 bill and I also had a new clutch and engine mounts fitted at the same time. The spending never stopped there with me buying a K-tec stealth exhaust and I decided that the 120k+ miles shocks were past there best and decided to buy brand new 172 Cup shocks from wests Renault and tbh combined with the Eibach sportlines I've got fitted too this setup is awesome for fast road driving. Got more stuff to do to it which include a remap with an Rs tuner which I'm still trying to figure out how to work and I've got matched inlets lying in my garage to be fitted at some point.

List of recent work:

Gates cambelt kit
Renault aux belt kit
Renault dephaser pulley
Renault waterpump
x16 new Renault valves
New Renault headgasket
Skimmed ported & polished head
Renault engine mounts
New Valeo clutch
Replacement low mileage gearbox
SS K-tec exhaust
Prima racing exhaust mount
Renault throttle cable (made a hell of a difference in pedal feel)
Brake fluid change
Mocal braided lines

Had the car one the rollers at the recent Scottish rr meet and it pulled 164 bhp & 144.6 lbft which I was a bit disappointed with but I new it would never make book figures but I was hoping it would be closer to them, It's also developed a nice flat spot between 2 & 5k so I need to find what is causing that.

I need to kerb the spending now as it's getting out of control  haha
