New brake pads fitted....total cost....

  Golf MK7,GSX-R600 L4
£37:D, pads from GDI and fitted using the brake changing guide on cliosport.net. Can't recommend the guide highly enough. Think i must of saved about £60-70 from what the local stealers would of charged including pads!!! Top stuff, my cup feels very different now! it stops!!!!!!

Nice one

Quite an easy job really....done quite a few pad/disc changes and the only problem I've come across is sticky pistons where they can be a bit of a pain to get back into the caliper to accomodate the thicker (new) pad.

Usually use a big G clamp and just wind them back in:D

Nice one, Im all for doing stuff myself as well, did my brae pads for the grand some of £8.50 the other week, I love having a trade account! Only problem being I bet the pads last no time at all!

A G clamp is a must, probably would of added a lot of time on if I didnt have that to push the piston back! First time I have done anything like that before, i would be taking on more DIY jobs from now on!

well played mate, bet it feels good to beat the garage!!

on the topics of brakes, when i drive slowly, with the music off and the windows open i can hear a slight squeking noise from the wheels, wondered if it was to do with the pads/disks??

what are the best pads to get if i want to replace mine, my mate is a mechanic and he can change them no problem but i dont know what to get, i.e green stuff/standard ones that the garages offer?

All advice welcome.

I've just went for the standard ones again as they lasted me just over 21k and the stopping power is excellent. I would prefer less brake dust but i dont know if that means getting drilled discs.

Can't help you with the squeeking problem, maybe its just something on the pad, it will probably pass.

When you change the pads , coat the back of them with copper grease .

yer when i had them changed on the VTR i noticed they put a coat of copper grease on, guessing this cuts out the squeek?

Thanks for the help...
