Just purchased a clio 172 on a 02 plate. Drove it home and next day its making a noise when revving the car. On idle theres no noise. Its like a whining noise which i thought could be alternator. A friend had a megan 1.6 which made a similar noise he says its a tensioner. Can anybody help please. Thanks

Have a search for 'Dephaser' noises on here and compare them to your noise mate

Ye its not dephaser thats more of a knocking noise. Its a high whine. Once driving in higher revs aint as noticeable.

Then IMO you should have a listen under the bonnet while someone takes it through different revs so you can locate the noise... If it is the belt/tensioner area it needs addressing

I can't see it being a tensioner so soon then mate unless it was incorrectly fitted... In which case it would have gone alot sooner...

You would be better off sticking a video of the noise in this thread mate
