New SM Intakes via group buy.

I've been searching through various filters to use, I prefer the K&N gauze type. The largest I have found, which would fit between headlight and battery, with an offset flange is this one (it looks angled but it isn't) - couldn't find an appropriate one with an angled flange which I would have preferred. Will see how it fits.

What length of silicone hose are people going for?
Ive rolled my car into my garage and will be fitting the SM Inlet this evening. The plan is to fit it and then work out exactly what intake pipe it will need as I suspect it wont be a straight one.

I have a company lined up to custom make the silicone intake tube I will also be having a custom battery cover made similar to the one I posted in the other sm inlet thread. Check back here later this evening. Might be worth doing a group buy on the above.

Distance from TB to filter flange is around 150mm, currently I've ordered 100mm silicone hose and 100mm ally joiner, both straight, I'm hoping the offset on the filter will allow for any adjustments necessary but if that doesn't work then the custom hose group buy sounds good to me too.

@optical , if the same people can do a surround to block off hot air I'd be interested. I have a piece of ally which I'm going to try and fashion to shape but will see.

For anyone doing the install themselves, this is a useful video. I struggled with the lower inlet removal - one bolt on the left under the engine mount, needed to jack engine up.

It a bit hard to get to the dipstick and filter yes but its doable.
Regarding the bolt -> yes you have to jack up the engine on the driver side.
I simply replaced the bolt wilt a torx one to get it removed allot faster and easier in the future :cool:

@bloke @SmokeyTheBandit just out of interest. Can you get to the dipstick with Sm/rs2/itbs? Not a massive issue, was just interested to know.

I can fit my hands down in between slam panel and inlet just don't try and do it mid track day lol I got my hand stuck and it was HOT haha not had any problems other than that checking my oil and I thought it was gonna be a nightmare to check.

think he's mapped four so far? will ask if he can do me an overlay of all of them.

Showing this versus a standard 172/182 would be ideal but this might be asking too much. I've avoided making changes to mine because 1. Good increases (10%+ min) cost so much and I know people like KTec/BenR/GDI talk (or talked) a load of rubbish and 2. The last time I looked decent gains seem to be at the costs of half decent progressive power delivery. It would be great if this system gives better power deliver, I'd be up for it then.

stu owen's was pretty much standard before apart from rs tuner map. the one the other day i think was also standard before?

How have people got round the injector plugs clearance issues (which applies to all 4)?
This pic shows the angle of the injector when it sits square on the seat.

But its twisted so the metal clip can't engage in the hole.

If you twist it back to where it can engage, then the connector plug causes it to rise and not sit flush - you can see the o-ring starting to protrude.

I tried cutting the corner off the plug but doesn't help enough.

I may have to remove the corner completely and do away with the spring clip and secure them another way but would rather not use zip ties.

Any other solutions?

Injectors need to be the ridht way due to spray pattern. You might get away with a little bit of movement but not much though.

Yes, and with the clasps in place the available movement is minimal.
As there are 4 holes for the spray, I'm wondering if that would that mean you get the same spray pattern if they are rotated through any mulitple of 90deg? Unless each hole sprays at a different exit angle I can't see why a rotation of 90/180/270 deg would cause a problem (happy to be shown why this wouldn't work).

I just rotated mine straight upright with the plug at the top, when Paul is mapping mine I will turn the injectors in a few positions to see if it makes any difference, if you look at most ITB set ups the injector plugs are at the top

was chris who found slight delay in throttle response before he actually saw two injectors turned so plug was at the top.
