New XBOX 360 with HDMI and 120gb HDD on the way!

Nice. Though the current 360 is capable of 1080p, which is now selectable on the display menu after a recent software update via live. Has anyone tired this?

Also, read this on a reliable HD review site;

"There’s a lot of talk going round at the moment about 1080p compatibility and the fact that current TVs don’t support this standard. It’s true that current HDTVs can’t support a 1080p input, but this really shouldn’t be anything to worry about. As I mentioned in the last page, if you feed an LCD or plasma TV a 1080i signal, it will de-interlace that signal and present you with what is essentially a 1080p picture."

Interesting....

not really intresting at all common knowledge and that statement is wrong in the fact it says that current tv's dont support the standard thats a lie mine does well it did its off back as it bust lol

  Better than yours. C*nt.
They're talking about the consumer market, and bearing in mind you have to spend £2k plus to get proper 1080p, they don't really take that into account.

*Waits for arguments about how he got his off someone for a grand*

hope they do a trade in offer cause it's not really fair. i don't even care about the 120 hard drive but the hdmi output would be great. my telly can only display 1080p through that so it's annoying.

how many 1080p sets do you actually want me to show you !!!!!

I know there are several!!! But 90% of the UK's population are f**kwits and get a 32" HD-Ready screen from Argos!!!

i agree but atleast the 360 has the ability to scale things unlike the ps3 that doest have a scaler so we are doing better on that front if you tv does only do 720p or some something else

I have given up on the search at the moment, i'm just happy if i get to actually post these days so admittedly didn't search to see if it had been posted before.

when using a VGA cable with the 360, should you be able to select the modes still? i.e 720p, 1080i, i've just realised I've lost the ability to. I can merely select res and normal / widescreen.

Erm.. how do I break this to you gently.. lol

VGA is not interlaced.. therefore you wont be able to select between I or P.

And 480.. 720.. 1080 just referes to the resoulution (or more specifically the vertical number of lines).. which is exaclty what your doing when you switch resolutions with VGA ..

720 and 1080 are resolutions bud infact the vertical resolution so look at the list of resolutions and find one that ends 720 and select that :)

my tv is 1024 x 768 IIRC, so i've got it set to that, is that wrong then?

i take it you have a plasma then ?
if its physical resolution check the book or website is 1024x768 then yes select that you will get a better picture as it wont need to scale it yet again

720P = perfect for most screens with a 1,280 x 720 resolution (720 lines progressively scanned, most screens below 37")

1080P = perfect for most screens with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution (1080 lines progressively scanned, most screens above 37").

So does this mean essentially a 32" LCD/Plasma with a 1,280 x 720 res panel displaying the correct 720P signal (for each line on the screen) will effectively look the same as a 40" + set displaying a 1080P signal, at least visually to the naked eye? The increased res of the screen relative to the increased size - as the bigger the screen goes the more resolution it loses to the viewer? I couldnt find a 32" screen, bar one 1.5k Toshiba LCD that had a 1,920 x 1,080 res screen in the standard High St shops (with blank looks from the sales reps!)

no you loose detail the smaller the screen you go as you just cant physically see it hence 1080p is a waste under 40" really

^ thats what I thought, hense no need and lack of 1080p (or the higher res panels) on screens below 37"...
