Newbie - Cheap Clio 182 Winter hack

  clio 182
Hi,

Just bought myself a 182 as a winter car/potential track toy. Having only paid £1100 naturally there are some issues. (Got to love drunken ebaying !)

Briefly owned a 172 many years ago and always been impressed by these little cars on track.

List of known issues after a week of driving:

-Boot won’t open
-Abs kicks in below 10 mph – Think I have a damaged/corroded driveshaft abs ring
-Usual steering wheel melting
-Steering wonders when pushing on - Could this be the steering tie rods or the control arm bushes ??
-This morning the heater blowers decided they had had enough and packed in – suspect this could be the heater resistor
-Exhaust heatshield rattle
-Needs a good detail

Im a fully paid up member so will take advantage of the how too guides to try and fix my issues above.

I want to firstly fix the niggles and then look at the suspension, I want a fast road/track set up but don’t really want to go daft with the budget or completely ruin the ride.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Cheers

Adam

Boot will be the solenoid. Get in the boot through the rear seats, undo the screw holding boot panel on and pull it off. You will see the connector in the middle.
Wandering I generally find to be track rod ends and tracking out
Heater resistor is a good shout.

Has it had the belts changed in last five years? Suspension refresh and a set of cooksports is a good starting point for handling. Makes a huge difference. Good compromise between comfort and handling. Otherwise you are then looking at coilovers etc.

Welcome! At £1100 That is probably not a bad buy. They all have annoying niggles. Some worse that others!!!

It’s a bargain for £1100 if the belts are not due!
Maybe get the suspension geometry set up which will highlight any faults and make it handle better.

Cheers Guys, Thanks for the advise.

Belts are due next year but i'll probably get that done this winter for piece of mind.

No doubt start a build thread some time soon. At this price i knew it would be a "running" project. Lots of service history and 7 months MOT so not all bad!

The timing belt/auxiliary belts/dephaser pulley were replaced in 2011, so will probably need doing soon.
So should of been changed 2 years ago

There’s always £1,000 to spend when you buy one of these cars!

Unless of course someone buys mine, it needs absolutely nothing.
But it’s not £1,100
