Nissan Silvia spec R

Stock calipers are the iron ones like on the S14 ?
You can upgrade to Ali calipers from a Z32 TT or Ali calipers with larger discs from a Skyline GTS-T.

Keeps it fairly original (still Nissan stuff) but there is a fair weight difference between the Iron and ali units.

They are cast iron, I have actually considered the z32 Calipers or even the 350z Brembos and r33 rear brake setup but it comes down to budget, z32 callipers would probably be the favourite.

you seem to know quite abit about s15s, did you used to own one or work on them? Would like to find a local specialist, slide motorsport any good?

Looks good - miss mine sometimes.

Did the exhaust come with it from Japan? My old Kakimoto system I imported has had a few owners now here in the UK.

Thanks! remember seeing your thread a couple of years ago, prices have increased a fair bit since.

Have you seen the prices of a clean aero spec r now like what you used to own?

The kakimoto came already fitted to the car, the only thing I would prefer is if the backbox sat straight rather than an angle like it is but apart from that it’s a nice system, not too loud and doesn’t drone.

Did you have a regu06r on yours?

Yeah the prices have gone a bit daft now! But it’s just following the trend of the skylines etc.

Mine came over nearly completely standard. I ordered a Regu06r from Japan and it was made and shipped over within 6 weeks. Brilliant service.

I used to buy parts from Jesse Streeter. Decent prices and a low fee from him too.

Glad I don’t own a JDM car now as I would have bought way too many parts when I was in Japan earlier this year haha!

Have/had an S13 for over a decade now, total POS tho.
Wish I could get another for what I paid all them years ago

Yea Slide Motorsport have a really good reputation.

The s15 was parked up in storage over winter so did abit of servicing amongst spending more than anticipated on mods.

just before taking it off the road I sold the bbs as they wasn’t really to my taste and bought some oem wheels until I settled on something else.

couple of pictures on the oem wheels

Over winter I gave the car abit of a service in terms of

-new oil filter
-Magnetic sump plug
-Fuchs Titan pro oil
-new ngk spark plugs
-new yuasa battery

The car also developed a miss fire a couple of weeks ago which was found to be a faulty coilpack. Replaced 2 for new oem items and will probably do the other two in the future for peace of mind.

anyway on to the exciting stuff. The calipers had been painted blue in japan, I wanted to refresh these for a more oem look so sent the front calipers off to biggred for a full refurb and painted the rears myself.

while the brakes were removed I fitted some project mu braided brake lines

And fitted.

fitted a new genuine nismo fuel filler cap and a rear boot mat from a forum member.

Stumbled across a genuine bride seat And rail for £500 which is really cheap and couldn’t resist. Gave it a good clean in the lounge as you do before fitting.

I’d been looking for some different wheels over Christmas to replace the oem ones and found someone local selling some Advan rg2s Cheap so snapped them up. Always wanted either these, volk te37s or 57dr.

Absolutely love these! Always had a soft spot for an S body but like you've said the UK ones are not in great shape usually.
Would be perfect with an Aero front bumper!

Beautiful car fella.

I was tempted to ask about this one before it got reserved. More of an evo guy, though

thanks! was never really a fan of them in red until I saw that particular one. Looked immaculate and tastefully modified unlike most

do like the aero bumper but could never pay the prices they command now, I will be looking for aero skirts at some point though.

Do really love an S15. I read too much Max Power as a kid though, so if I owned anything like this it would have to have a jap style body kit and be tuned to within an inch of it's life :ROFLMAO:

Making me miss mine!

Looks great on those wheels. Front needs to come down a tad more. Just check careful of the loom in the arch. Pretty easy to poke it up a bit further though.

I can’t be the only one who thinks they look far better standard than with huge kits on though. I come in this thread sometimes for a quick bash because it’s so clean.

I know what you mean, there is something nice about an original car, but these era of car for me is all about the modifications. The stuff that Top Secret, Blitz, Trial, etc etc were building around the turn of the century was just epic. Some of it was a bit lairy to look at, but they had the minerals to back it up and they usually looked purposeful rather than Fast and Furious, so I love it. Or maybe I'm a closet chav. One of the two.

cheers! that’s as low as it will allow currently as it’s rubbing on the drivers side arch liner where it covers the loom like you say, will be getting it booked in for a proper alignment/geo set up when possible to add a touch more camber to the front in order to lower it.

If not I’ll look at tucking the loom I think. Still look back at your thread amongst others For ideas and inspiration, looks slightly different now to when you had it though!

I’m also a fan of the lairy modified examples, (apart from rocket bunny) particularly yashio factory’s and the pink livery but couldn’t do anything that’s not easily reversible to mine as I also see it as abit of an investment.

How are you finding the gearbox on these?

I whacked a Nismo gearbox Mount on mine and it absolutely transformed the box feel. No more slack. Felt horrendous after a Honda!

I’d definitely recommend tucking the loom up a bit. I wasn’t massively low but I started rubbing through the liner quite a bit.

I had quite a bit of front camber and next to no back camber. Really good set up and easy to control when you kick the back end out.

This was the set up I went with. Taken from Driftworks...

FRONT
camber 2'50"
castor 7'30"
toe 0'00"

REAR
camber 1'10"
toe 0'00"

RESULT:

Positive steering feel
Will not grab or snap
Stable and consistent control

Found it very good for fast road.

Not too bad, the shifter wobble took abit of getting used to. I’ve also fitted a nismo Gearbox Mount which did make a massive difference to be fair but will also be getting the nismo engine mounts as It still feels as though it could have less movement. I have accepted it will always have some movement on throttle as I’ve found out it’s a Silvia thing.

I’ll give that a go cheers! Will be taking it to slide once they re open and let them do it along with the engine mounts

The set up was so easy to control. So smooth and predictable (as it could be with the standard diff). Was even better in the friends that had a Kaaz diff. So good!

I want another one now ffs! 😂

Did you ever consider aiming for abit more power when you had yours?

I did...but I also had a few problems with it. Needed a new clutch, flywheel and had the dreaded rattle too. So I chucked the towel in...and got a DC5 😂

Made a decent profit on the car itself so wasn’t too painful when I sold it!

Wise decision 😂 I don’t plan on selling mine but if the time ever came I hope to return a profit or at least break even.

Is that a cheeky 'Drift Button' installed on that handbrake? The ones where the button has no spring so you have to pull it out to lock it? If so that car has definitely been sideways ;)

Lovely clean example though, makes a nice change from all the 'drift spec' (read: ruined) ones my slidey mates run on about

it is indeed! Came on the car from japan, did think about removing it and replacing with another oem handbrake with spring but it might come in handy someday 😂

Cars changed slightly, always wanted a set of genuine te37s and a set came up at a good price so had to snap them up.

Looks amazing 😍 the apexi makes a good noise too
Such a handsome machine.

Do love the Aero front bumper though... 👀

cheers guys! Nearly got it how I want it to look just needs aero skirts. i only fitted the apexi for aesthetics if I’m honest over the blue greddy filter it had previous

Needs rear spats over the front bumper. They look good with a lip on the current bumper too 😉

Wouldn’t mind the aero front bumper but don’t fancy paying the £1200+ premium they now command! Aero skirts and rear spats are also pricey but will probably end up paying it at some point. 😂

Hardrace do a range of stiffer rubber bushes for the S15, much better option for a road vehicle.
Tighten up the handling without compromising the ride quality.

Don't squeak like polybushes, don't rattle your teeth out over every indentation in the road.

The other bushes that make a huge difference are the rear subframe bushes (hard race do these too) and I found doing the steering rack bushes and the steering column bush made a big difference (also they're cheap to do).
Diff bushes, engine and gearbox mounts are also a smart move.

Have looked at the hardrace stuff a few times but was never sure what the quality is like. Have you got any of there parts on yours? The lower arms now have superpro bushes in, not sure how far I’ll go in terms of upgrading/ replacing bushes and suspension components as I want to keep it road friendly. May replace a lot of them for either oe or nismo items eventually.

just had the engine mounts replaced with new nismo ones A few week back by slide but have been considering the diff bushes also. Might have the steering rack and column bits done on its next visit. Are they labour intensive jobs?

I had loads of the Hardrace stuff on my Silvia dude. Brilliant quality and wouldn’t think twice about using their stuff again.
