No ABS + Ice + Curb + Bollard FTL

-J-

  RS2'ed 172 Cup
On the way to work this AM, down a long straight road with Chicains on to slow traffic, has a 30mph limit.

As I approached one of the Chicains a car pulled out of a side road ahead, I slowed, hit Ice and ended up running up over the Chicain at about 20 MPH, Have dented my Turini, Damaged my CF Splitter, Snapped the lower bumper supports on the Curb and have a nice big black plastic scuff on the bonnet where 2 plastic bollards met thier maker (They must have gone a good 15ft up in the air over the roof of the car!)

Thankfully i dont think Damage is to bad, and the only visable mark is the bonnet scuff and scrape on the CF Splitter and 5p size dent in the wheel, I need to investigate under the car at the weekend.

Then to top it off I get to work and pour a WHOLE cup of coffee over my PC :quiet: Not having a good day, im going to use the lift at lunch for fear of falling down 3 flights of stairs, they say bad things happen in 3's.

Take it easy out there people, even if the roads have been gritted and look dry you can still come unstuck!

Ah the first of the 'winter casualties' on the 172 Cups...pisser matey..tho that said ABS might not have saved you...i can lock up my brembo's without much trouble at all in the wet before ABS has even got its arse into gear..

TBH it was a bit embarrsing, the BMW driver behind had already beeped at me for going to slow, that said I would have liked to see his face as the 2 bollards went flying up in the air.

I find my abs near useless in the snow anyway, if I slightly touch the brake pedal in snow/ice it goes crazy and makes the car feel all unstable!

Saying that I had a accident this morning. Going downhill towords a junction pressed the brake to slow down and stop and I was just sliding then the back end spun round and I was looking at the guy in a mini behind me  Didn't hit anything though!

Its not been a good year for Clios this year..................... dont wanna drive mine just incase

Its the start of the cup killing season.

Unlucky hope the damage proves minimal and you get it sorted quickly.

Actually just Clio killing season. There have been many as of late, and most have not been Cups! V6 are3 more likely to die in the winter.

Gutted fella :(

I have a cracked ABS ring so it just does what it wants, need to get that sorted, lol.

Ah, bad luck. Maybe just stay in the office at lunch? What if you get stuck in the lift :quiet:

Unlucky mate. Although ABS or no ABS, doubt that would have made much difference in the snow / ice.

not being funny, but think everyone knows the current conditions, surely using ya common sense if theres ice, you slow down not doing 20 into a chicane?? abs or no abs

Just been out on my Fag break to have a look....

Scuff on Bonnet has polished out with the help of my Jeffs QD and my Coat arm LOL

Bumper support undertray thing has snapped, hopefully can get a new one without having to buy a whole new bumper.

Tyre has a Massive chunk missing from it, but I was going to buy a set of PE2's next week so not that fussed.

Wheel has a dent, Hopefully a Hammer will fix this (Tool of the Pikey FTW)

Carbon Splitter I think ill be able to sort with some Wet and Dry and a can of Laquer.

How much slower than 20 MPH can you reasonably drive :rasp: And im no metiorolgist (SP?) but i cant tell if a road is Icy in places and not in others until I stand / Drive over it

I doubt the lack of ABS would have contributed, braking through a chicane might not have helped much

Auch well at least your alright and its only cosmetic damage

Sucks :(

Remember FF owners, ESP/TC needs to be turned off for you to go anywhere in the f**king snow :p

Far too many accident threads at the moment :(

I'm guessing the V6 attrition rate is 3 x higher full stop.

:rasp:^ I fank you

Not sure about the actual theory however I dont like TC/ESP, cuts power when you need it most (in front wheel dive car you use the power to pull out of a slide) personally think its crap. Good for people that dont know what to do in a skid/slide, however if you know what to do your probs best to have a go at sorting it out yourself, My personal view on it (although that has been shot down in flames many times on here lol) is switch it off.

How's that work then?

Tried to drive up a snowy/icy hill with traction control on?

You go nowhere at all, TC cuts all power to the wheels so you just end up sitting in the spot.

Last year, lots of idiots in their 4WD jeeps got stuck at the bottom of my hill, the Clio got up it fine (once I'd turned the TC off :p)

TBH The Pictures wont show much, i have got the mark of the bonnet now, leaving a few very small scratches, Carbon Splitter is scuffed, Wheel just looks dented and chunk missing from the tyre.

Went for a little drive at lunch and it seems to drive straight with no wobbles or any major strange noise, I think when i get my New PE2's fitted next week ill get an allignment check done just incase though.

I dont think the abs would of made any difference tbh.Once you slip your gone.No ammount of abs is going to save it

Not in the Clio, no.

Had TC on the Zafira we had before and it was brilliant tbh. Stormed up a snowy hill in 2nd with TC giving just enough power:grip - left many other cars behind stranded.
