Not Normal Dans R26 Megane F1

  Megane r26
I'll have to pop over when you're about dude to check it out, and maybe some photos

Yeah, gave it a clean this morning although after today it's a different colour!

Still can't get over how much of an improvement the smf conversion has made and how the down pipe has made the boost delivery!

Now just for for injectors and map beggining of March, will give me time to get some mileage under its belt before hand!

  Megane r26
So earlier today I was in a bit of a hurry to get the geo done with being back at work and not knowing when is next get chance.

I usually use the assistance of @NorthloopCup or me mate Pete at centre of gravity but with me being in a hurry I didn't want to be putting folk out.

So after speaking to a few pals in the drift community and hearing good things off @MrBurns I headed off to A line in Dudley.

These guys use the latest hunter equipment and will happily dial in any setup you want and also advise on setup.

Anyway we discussed setup and that I do I aim to do a handful of trackdays but it's still predominantly a road car so still had to retain decent tyre wear.

So we set the toe to standard manufacturers spec and the camber to the maximum negative angle but still with in manufacturers tolerance so will still get decent tyre wear.

He even said that if I found that on track I could do with a little more or that the tyres were wearing great he'd happily dial in some more for sod all as my setup is now saved on there system.

Haven't had chance to push it yet but felt better as it wasn't pulling all over the road. The dampers are still set to soft but can't wait to wind them up on a dry day and push on ;)

So little parcel arrived today. The rear brakes had really seen better days when I bought the car especially the discs anyway.

So after reading a few reviews online and speaking to some friends I bought the rear discs from MTEC performance sport brake discs.

These came with bearings and grooved and for 175 quid I got a set of discs, a set of brembo pads and the abs rings built in.

So await my review on here for these but so far they seem a good quality product.

Now onto the other disc you see, basically when stripping the car last week during the mass overhaul I noticed the inner pad on the drivers side was a little more worn.

On closer inspection it appears to be a little sticky in the caliper so coupled with the heat it's clear to see that it's been sticking and worn the inner of the disc something terrible.

So reluctant to pay for OE discs due to the fact the DS1.11 pads seem very hard and that coupled with track days could turn out a tad expensive I hit the Internet. Anyway I ended up on ktec racing site (a site I rarely use now days as there usually expensive) and I found these on offer

There grooved, claim to be H/C and up to uprated pads and track work so thought I'd give them ago.

As always ordered Friday here today, usual ktec service which has always been good

Roll on Wednesday:D my day off and time to get cracking!

  Megane r26
So got a few updates, been a bit lazy and only really been updating me RSmegane thread.

So first off I got round to replacing the front discs

Soon stripped the old knackers off

Gave the hub a bit of a clean

New disc in

And all went well other side and are nicely bedded in now.

If you remember the trouble I had with the downpipe of having to grind out excess weld and re-weld it from the rear to fit.

Well I got onto Whybee and they said they had a new modified downpipe which they happily sent out, can't fault there service and I will fit this sooner or later

As you can see the lip for the turbo is there now

Then on to the rear brakes

Stripped

Old discs well past it

New setup all fitted and looking much healthier

944560F4-FD89-448A-9603-B297E12CEEE7_zpsay3gobl7.jpg

Also I fitted some 5mm front spacers as the rim protector on tyre would just catch on coilovers on full lock, something that seems common on coilovered meganes

600038F8-881E-4BD5-B1BF-EF3B7333C8D3_zpsgsnvvut1.jpg

Either way it's done the trick.

Next up I wanted to raise the rear as it had settled a little to low for my liking and and I like a bit of rake.

Also adjusted exhaust has it was a little close to the rear bear and would vibrate and knock time to time.

Then yesterday the final piece to the puzzle finally arrived

Is booked in with Paul at RS tuning on 5th of March for mapping, hopefully see around 285bhp and torque limited to 300

  Megane r26
It should go well then.

I'm there on the 6th to get my forged engine and hybrid turbo mapped.

Yeah I tried to book the 6th but speccky said they were rather busy.

I've got to get there for about half 12 to bang me injectors in so he can start mapping at 1.

He says it takes a couple of hours but most people I speak to said it's much quicker

I wouldn't know how long it takes, first time I went for mapping the turbo was fucked then the second time my timing was out. Hoping for third time lucky.

I rung up on Friday asking for the 5th but Specky said they were busy so booked me in on the 6th at 11am.

Yeah I think I rang on Wednesday, what spec were you running previously?

Yeah I think I rang on Wednesday, what spec were you running previously?

It's run three different specs.

Originally it was Stage 2 with Forge intercooler, Forge actuator, Forge recirc and 2.75" decat. That made 270bhp and 333lbft at TDF.

Then I added the ITG kit, Forge hard pipe kit, 630cc injectors and 3" Ktec exhaust. Went for mapping and turbo was fucked so only base 630cc map was installed. This made 263bhp and 285lbft on the base map at Surrey Rolling Road once the turbo was replaced.

Now it's got a brand new forged engine, hybrid turbo, 3" decat, and a new set of 630cc injectors. Went for mapping and the timing was out! Timing was sorted this week and it ran 294.4bhp and 325lbft still on the base 630cc map at Surrey Rolling Road.

  Megane r26
So at the weekend I thought I'd bang me matte black sunstrip on.

I dunno why but I like the look of these and the makes them look a little more racey ;) also I hate having sun visors down!

Here's the out come

No bubbles, creasing or swearing which judging my track record is pretty good. Also brimmed it with Vpower today ready for the trip to RS tuning in thursday!

  Megane r26
So headed off to RS tuning this morning after a night shift.

Steady drive up thanks to the 50mph average speed on the M1.

So got there and the guys were a little behind but the banter kept us entertained.

So Paul got the car on the rollers and we got the injectors swapped over and Paul set to work.

Slight clearance issues haha

287.1bhp and 312ftlb by looks of the graph.

Transformed the car and the way it drives, proper savage and a load of fun!

  535d / t5 caravelle
Nice results! Thought you were limiting the torque to 300, what happened there lol? Mines 320 and I'm concerned, do I need to be? Who knows....

Paul took me keys and worked his magic, even left the missus in the car until he had to put laptop on the seat haha

From what I gather he keeps it around that mark, I wouldn't get overly hung up on it matey.

Cheers mate, it's not overly interesting haha

i try not to, but it's always something in the back of my mind, I've only had the car 3 weeks, but it's ran this spec for 2.5years so I guess I should just chill

Yeah just enjoy it, I drive my car and take part in track days but it still gets treated with a degree of mechanical sympathy

  Megane r26
I'm going to enjoy chasing this around Oulton ;) Top work!

We need to get Captain Mincer out in his at Oulton @NorthloopCup

Yeah I can't wait to get it on track tbh, sprinting it this weekend at a local sprint track which will be fun as traction is questionable at times haha

Yeah he did say he was gonna book on soon with the kermit mobile

Mechanical sympathy? I need to learn about this...

Cracking result on the mapping mate.

3rd for me feels like 2nd lol. I took it near enough all the way in 5th and it was still going, crazy speeds though [emoji51]

Did Paul take you out in yours after it was mapped?

I've been there to watch now and again for several years but more so after meeting Ste Burns.

Anyone free is more then welcome to pop down, it's 25 quid for a years membership which entitles you to several members days where you'll get to drive the track and entry into other events.

Really is a great venue with a wide variety of cars and enthusiasts.
