I was driving yesterday and the drivers air bag decides to go off for no reason, nearly knocked me out And burnt my arm, my son was in the pasenger seat so thank god that one didn't go off. The cars 9 years old, but do I have any right to go to renault and have a word, as this could of been very dangerous luckely we wasn't travelling very fast.

MOT dont really check any of the airbags. Even having the light on is only a advisory, sometimes not even that!
i agree that you are entitled to have a moan about it, since those things are bloody lethal!! but renault will just say its own and out of their care now so im not sure who you would complain to!

i have a spare airbag for the steering wheel if you need one , would of thoght renault wouldn't of done anything about it as the car is 9 years old and its not something you hear about everyday !! if it was a common fault then yes they would of done something about it (recall or what not) , but seeing as its a one of and after all they dont know what has been done to the car over 9 years , someone may of taken it of and refitted it for instance and not installed properly , not saying you have but thats what renaults would try saying
I think thats just the airbag light/wiring isnt it? I know this because a mate of mine had to get his checked when his car reached 10 y/o.

No it's the actual airbags it's in the small print for most manufacturers.

Anyway as per the original poster airbags arn't perfect they do more good than harm. Complaining to Renault would IMO not go far, yep they can go off accidentally with a million to one incident like this usually a stone chip etc but if you ever had a proper head on crash youd want it

It's true they are given a life span of 10 years, but I doesn't mean there going to randomly start going off, for some reason the airbag has received a voltage be it from the control unit or crash sensor I would want to get the srs system checked Renault are going to Do diddly squat, why should they?
