Optional exhaust available from Renault

Hi guys and girls.

My younger brother has just bought a Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamique. In the brochure there is an optional accessory section which indicates there is a sports exhaust (single letter box style tail pipe, sticks out under the rear bumper) available from renault.
Insurance companies won't insure him with an aftermarket exhaust. So i wondered if we could get round this by buying from the renault dealer themselves, as it is an "optional accessorie". Will it affect his premium as it is not a 'performance enhancing' product??

hmmm is a complicated one. It depends when its fitted, normally this would be fitted at the dealers so will need declaring as an optional extra - this will affect his premium. If it was fitted at the factory its factory standard, so wont need declaring. There nice exhausts the sebring ones.

It is still a change in exhaust, and is different from manufacturers origional spec. Must be declared and more then likely up premium slightly. But stress to them its a reno accessory too

Also a lot of places if you can assure them there was no increase in performance they wont increase premium, I did this for my quote with norwich union.

i have that exhaust and there aint much of a performance gain and there is no noise at all its pretty much the same as standard.

think im gunna take mine off soon

He doesnt want it for perfromance gains or sounds, just the viewable exhaust look.

He is with norwich union at the mo...so he will have to stress the fact it does not enhance performance?

its just the back box with a tip extruding from the rear bumper....not some 5inch efort that sticks out the back of most the saxos my way, a small oval shape one.

Middo, so right, anyway the insurance companies will look at younguns as potential death givers and will always up the anti. Doesn't matter if it increases performance. Just part of lifes conundrums.

I wouldnt pay the money for one as there like £228 for the rear box at the dealership i work at they are poor quaility and never fit right as Middo said.

i should of said it properly the first time THEY ARE RUBBISH DONT BOTHER waste of money, very heavy box, just pointless tbh

i think ill replace it with a prospeed stealth system in march/april when i have some time to get over there.
