Origin b2 - laser detector location

Ive just ordered myself an Origin b2 and i was wondering where people with the heat reflecting windscreens have put the laser detector unit? Can it go on the main part of the screen or does it have to go in the uncoated patch at the bottom?

Thanks

Rocko

You CAN put it any where but the signal is not that good/strong so its best to put in the square at bottom centre of the screen, i have mine held by double sided pads and it works fine!

Good choice on the B2 you wont be dissappointed!

The Origin just arrived - very prompt service Id heartily reccommend radardetectors.co.uk to anyone.

Only one problem (theres a vertical line of missing pixles near the right hand side of the display - never mind), but theyve said that theyll replace it for me so thats cool.

Gonna put it in the car at lunchtime and give it a test run :)

I have the B2 too, and have no complaints about the unit.
The only problem i had, was although my laptop is a new machine, it does not have a COM port to update the B2s database. I had to buy the additional modem for £50.

I had to put my GPS reciever on the back parcel shelf for the best signal, there is plenty of cable so you should be able to position it anywhere in the Clio with ease.

Yep, Ive got it fitted and the display problem has vanished :)

The GPS reciever has gone right by the back on the driver side rear window - cant use the parcel shelf coz I take it out so often.

Excellent unit - well worth the money :D

I am soooo tempted to order this myself.

Was it easy to fit? Got any pics of it all in location?

Cool, looking forward to seeing them.

I might be able to get my order in by 3pm this afternoon that way [:)] and hence get it tomrrow for fitting over the weekend.

Still got a bit of work to do with hiding the wires properly and hard wiring the power lead in (Its in the cig lighter atm). But its raining too hard for that, Sunday morning job methinks ;)

Hope these help.

rocko, is it difficult to hard wire the unit?

I have mine powered by the ciggy lighter, and although it tidy, it could look better.

Whats involved with hard wiring the unit?

Im just planning on cutting the cig lighter lead and wiring it in to the back of the stereo leads. Therell only be 2 wires + and - so it wont be too much trouble. Ill post exactly how I do it when I get it done - prob wont be till at least next week tho - sorry

Thats the one thing that has been putting me off at the moment. Im too chicken to cut into my cars cables!! Id probably either leave it in the fag lighter or get a road angel and do the same.

I really do need to invest in one, but my insurance is due.:(

It is neat enough in the fag lighter, but I just want it to be completely installed..... Ive got a carkit I can take the power off actually thatll be easier :)

Rocko, any chance of some pictures when youre cutting and joining stuff?

Id like to do the same, but im not confident enough to go it alone!

How does the cradle attach to the dash?
Will it not sit in the tray behind the clock (in line between the clock and the laser detector)?

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30

yup, and they are doing it for 320 for cliosport members :)

Mine arrived about 15mins ago, just looking at it now.

How do u get the £100 discount???

Been thinking becoming a member for a long time....................

Want to get my hands on one of those origin b2s, but wanna know how much better they are than road angel?

To get the discount, you just call em up and quote your cliosport membership number.

The Origin b2 has a superior database over the road angel, thats not to say the road angel is a bad product.

Just do your research, then plump for the one that suits you best.

For me it was a toss up between the b2 and the Snooper S6-R Neo, and I decideed to go for the b2.

Yeah, it will sit anywhere you want it to - its just a sticky pad that holds it in place. I decided to put it there so that the wife cant keep an eye on my speed ;)

Does anyone know if the clock in the B2 self adjusts in anyway?

When i first installed mine, it showed the correct time, so i was wondering does it receive a time signal from the sats as well as its position?

Bump. Any more pics rocko? Ordered mine today - £320 is a steal! Does the laser detector thingy need to go in the hole in the reflective screen, or could it go up by the rear view mirror?

Most people are going for the "hole in the screen" because it is the only part of the screen that doesnt have the heat reflecting stuff.

How often are people updating their units?

The only problem Ive found is that sometimes it pops out of the cradle, only enough to disconnect itself and then reconnect but its enough to break power connection and so it has to re power up and lock on again. This only tends to happen if Im caning it and the car bounces around :)

I go for a weekly update. leave it any longer than two weeks and it bugs you to update when you powerup.

I have my laser detector hidden behind the rear view mirror, with the cable running around the roof trim. i thought it looked out the way there.

My theory, and im no scientist, is that the windscreen is tinted to refract UV light and laser light is on a different wavelength.
So laser light should be OK?
I dunno tho, i guess ill find out when i get a speeding ticket ;)

Sorry, What with the weather and everything Ive not had a chance to wire it in properly yet. Just tiedied it up a bit by routing the power wire from the cig lighter and out the back of the pocket (cup holders). Looks neat enough for the moment but I will get round to it when the weather improves.

There was a mobile unit in my village at lunchtime, but i took my B2 unit out last night in preperation for trading the car in on Thursday.

I could have driven past them a few times and tested the positioning of the laser detector if i had left it in

The laser detector can be put anywhere. As Woof says, laser is a light beam so it comes through the coating.

Does it get a good Sat Lock?

I always found with my GPS Receiver it worked better in the windscreen.. the heated rear screen messed it up.. and there wasnt anywhere really else?

I put my satellite receiver on the parcel shelf support next to the back seat - same as rocko did in his picture. It can only really see out of the side window, but it gets a good lock every time, even when it was upside down before Id stuck it down!

Theres only 1 fixed camera in Telford (a Truvelo), but it spotted it ok and it knew which direction it was facing :)
