Overfueling 16v

Right, ive got chip, cams and PBV on my 1.8 which has been fine until a few days ago. Trouble is, over the past week, i removed my stainless system and ecotek yesterday and now there appears to be a slight hesitation between stamping on the gas and before it really takes off. I know its not duff plugs or anything because it is actually accelerating, just not a fast as it should be during that few seconds. The only thing i can think of is that the PBV is kinda flooding the engine momentarily causing it to be sluggish until the plugs and air mix can overcome it. After that it rockets away at a tremendous rate......

Any opinions/guesses??

Before anyone mentions it, no, i cant afford to stick it on a rolling road to have the PBV set professionally!

If you cant afford to get the PBV set up properly, take it off....

Its not going to cause any damage having it on if its not 100% though. I need it for the cams surely......

Do you get 10inch flames fly out the back of your exhaust when you lift off? followed by a loud "POP" ? If so - keep it like it

if its set up properley your not gaining from it.it might be adjusted to a point where the fuel pressure is near enough standard anyway because its not set up.

Well, im only getting about 180miles to a full tank so im assuming its pumping too much petrol through as thats below average mpg. I just wonder if that would cause the above effects.....

are your exhaust fumes black in colour.have you checked the colour of the spark plugs?(on the tips)

Exhaust fumes are normal - ill check the plugs (new 4.5k ago) at the w/e. I take it sooty means not enough fuel and oily means too much?

Apparently, PBVs come pre-adjusted from the factory (to a reasonable degree) and ive only ever turned it up so i suppose it can only really be that. However, ive been having an idle problem (nearly stalls coming to a halt) which ive been told is the TPS - maybe my problems could be down to this worsening.....

sooty/black would mean overfueling.have you cleaned out your idle valve for the poor idle problem?

Get a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line. Standard pressure from the factory is 3bar, my pbv is set up on the rr at just over 3.5bar.

try cleanig icv then play with pbv until it pulls nicely had this trouble with mine .

Cheers for the info folks - think ill try the pressure guage thing as my ive got a new ICV on so cant be that.

steve a - what other mods does your car have? Do you knw where i could get a pressure gauage from and how much?

a pressure gauge could be avaliable from any tool stores(halfords might do one).you would also need a t peice section of pipe so you can put the gauge inline.
