PAS leak 182 . . . Been at the garage 3 days!!!

A couple of weeks ago my 182 started to develop a slight power steering fluid leak (just a drip) then over the next week it started to get worse. Took it to the local stealer to get it checked out, i was there about an hour while they where trying to get me to buy a new clio 200, anyway! The MECHANIC told be the leak was coming from the large PAS pipe which goes round the engine. 'Ok' i said 'how much to replace?' He replied ' I'll check'
After another 10 minutes he came back with 'its £348+vat fitted. I told him to go f**k himself. So i said I'll just have to live with it for now, he looked at me and said ' if you dont get it fixed today it will break and wreck your pump and aux belt and possibly your cam belt'
Well after that and fact he talks s**t i took the car to a local garage where i trust the lads, they had a look and said the pipe can be repaired by PIRTEK, Great! . . But then more problems, the nut that fits onto the rack had seized on to the pipe so they snapped it off. The pipe was then taken to PIRTEK which they repaired and now the lads are refitting.
I will get the car back 2moro. CANT WAIT!!!

Just thought i'd let people in on the last 3 days of my life LOL

Very far fetched in my mind, even if it did BREAK i,m sure i,d notice my power steering becoming heavy

so you took it straight to renault, why would you do this if you trust the lads at your local?. I bet you didnt tell the tech to go fuk himself either.

I took it there because it was on my way home from work! I bet dealers get told To go f**k themselves all the time!!!

I hope not. It's hardly their fault is it? They are just doing their job and quoting the prices for parts and labour that are no doubt set by Renault.

Yep, that pipe alone is nearly £200. So I don't think their price was overly expensive!?!

Just had this happen today I have noticed and so had my Dad lol the block paving has been getting stained, I didnt think anything of if as i'd only changed the filter a few days prior and assumed it was off the block.

Got Vibratechnic mounts on it at the weekend, Initially i thought this was related due to them being stiffer Vibrateions etc. I went for a "drive" this afternoon braking down a hill into a sharp right, I think the pressure was too much and it spewed the oil out where it clamps onto the front of the box.

So Pirtek are the place to go it seems? Closest ones 13 miles f**k biking there lol How much am i expected to pay, I was going to go with pretty much a full rubber one and bin the piping off

Sorry to here that mate, Pirtek is the place to go, but i did notice a full pipe on ebay for around £50 from cit-ren. So just do a search on ebay. Good luck

I wouldn't trust a second hand part like this, much better to have your existing one repaired by Pirtek and cheaper.

My PAS pump failed and leaked onto the aux belt (that was brand new! ) and cost me £435 for new pump + aux belt + labour

Still a lot cheaper than a new one, as you have already found out.

Yeah cheaper! As for getting a second hand pipe its 50/50 if its gonna leak, but worth it if its cheap.

Pirtek will only charge £35 if it is one flexi is being renewed, yours must have had 2 flexi's changed. Add a union half way along the whole assembly is another £10.
