[PC/XB360/PS3] The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim

Thats why I never buy horses, I just enjoy the walk hitting s**t with my mase of molag bal. Spent out on my house in Whiterun now, much nicer place to be, and nearly finished the missions for the Jarl of Riften - Question, do I have to do the thieves guild, or can I just go down and gut them all? Is it worth doing?

Finally restored the Thieves Guild to it's former glory by completing the extra quests for Devlin and Vex. So that's their faction fully completed now. Been doing loads of misc quests too. Trouble is, by doing those I'm inadvertently picking up new quests. Still only on Alsuin's Wall main quest too. Going to visit the Bards College today. Then the museum in Dawnstar - those two are very early on in my misc quests that I haven't done yet. Also need to join the Stormcloaks or Imperisls.

149 hours now and level 49. 38 from 50 Achievements. 4 I need are quests I haven't done yet, 1 is reaching level 50 too so not far off that one.

I don't bother with horses. Just explore then fast travel to places. Finding stuff is half the fun. If you see a blacked out icon on your radar at the top, make the effort to go and discover what it is.

yup, I spend ffaaaarrrr too much time wandering, but you find so much interesting stuff - example, I came across a bloke on the floor next to a cart - he said bandits had attacked him, and could I transport him to his home, just over the bridge, and he would reward me for getting him back safe - Well the fucker had only gone and set a trap - he was a bandit, and had taken me into his camp to rob me! 6 came at once, so I conjoured up my daedric lord, and fucked them over - camp had a lot of goodies in too

I don't think I could do that on this game. My previous stats & levelling whinges have just soured this game for me. I haven't even launched it for a few weeks now.

The sad thing is, I bet Bethesda won't address the issue in their next game either. If I was good at programming, I'd develop a mod for it myself! :)

D.

  Nothing at the mo :(
Anyone else lost interest in this game a bit, just loaded it up and ran to some town and got bored and turned it off!! maybe i need to do something on the main quests for it to be more fun again

I've got that much to do I'm not getting bored as I'm finding more things to get on with by completing quests.

Just joined the Stormcloaks and almost completed the Liberation of sub-plot.

Just got my 50G for the Level 50 achievement.

Same, I have at least 50 side quests, but do what I do, have a wander, go make a meal or pop into an inn, go for a wander, don't always do the set quests and side quests - make up your own, go out to get some money, or to gether s**t to make weapons/armour - thats the beauty of the game, you don't actualy have to just do quests, you do what you like :)

So it is worth doing all the guild quests? I'm leader, but I have loads of offers still open. I kinda thought they were fillers, but am I to understand that it's part of the quest?

Not essential, but getting those jobs from Vex and Devlin contribute towards restoring the guild.

They each offer small jobs in random cities. Once you have completed 4 or 5 of those jobs in a particular city, you are assigned a Special Job within that city. The chosen job locations are completely random.

For example, you could get a burglary job in Whiterun. Complete it and your next job could be in Marketh. Not really a problem, as you're contributing to both cities and stacking up your jobs completed. However, if you have been given the Special Job in Whiterun and been successful, it is pointless continuing to get smaller jobs in Whiterun as they'll just loop. This mini set of quests is good in that respect, as you can simply tell Vex or Devlin you don't want to finish it and ask for another job, hoping it will be in a city you haven't completed the special job in.

Ignore or pull out of any quests in Riften, too.

The four cities you ultimately get Special Jobs in are :
Whiterun, Marketh, Solitude and Windhelm.

Like I say, once done enough small jobs within a particular city, Devlin will offer you the special job for that city. Once done, ignore any further jobs in that city, they are pointless. Simply pull out of the job and ask for another.

You'll get Guild Master Armour, a fence located in certain areas offering 4k gold to purchase from and other little peeks too. Plus it completes the Thieves Guild completely.

Crikey. Cheers.

Do I need to accept differing types of jobs? In other words can you just keep accepting sweeps from Vex, or do you need to take varying tasks?

Not that I'm aware of. There's a two birds with one stone way of going about things too. Get a Sweep job from Vex and a Bedlam job from Devlin in the same city. Keep accepting and - if needbe - refusing jobs until you get them both in the same city. Because Sweep and Bedlam jobs can be done in the same house, it saves a lot of time and travelling.

One thing to bear in mind is that any jobs you cancel will go down as failed quests. Not that it matters, but just as a warning. I've now got about 36 failed quests through that ordeal alone. Got there in the end though.

Cheers. Earlier, I got a special job in Whiterun, from following your advice.

FYI, Vex is fit, and Delvin belongs in a Guy Ritchie movie.

Hmmm, may need to join the thieves guild.

Im still going on in the companions, though im still having issues with pesky mages - I f**king hate magic.

Oh, came up against my first dragon priest - kicked the f**k outta me :(

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
LOL they get easier as you level up.

I only have 3 priest masks.

Just completed the Stormcloaks faction. Pretty neat.

Started the Whispering Lady quest now.

The Thieves Guild is good. Plenty of cool quests, and it gives you a proper purpose. I did the nuts and bolts of it and then joined the Dark Brotherhood, but I've put that on hold so I can further pursue the Guild s**t. Such an incredible game in this regard. You really can just do whatever the f**k you want. All the time.

Anyone recommend a good guIDE for a beginner? Or anyone got tips hints for a total noob?

Follow the main quest for a bit - you will get some half decent amour, and your first dragon shout - after that its pretty much up to you - i spent days just wandering about lol

in fact to give you an idea, iv put over 61 hours in now and iv only just reached level 30, and iv not completed any of the guilds yet

Oh, a tip - whatever cave/castle etc you enter, will stick at that level - so you go in at level 9, you shouldnt have much trouble going back in at a later stage - bear this in mind as it is very easy to level up quickly by smithing alot, and you could find yourself in over your head a bit - a mistake a mate of mine did

I no that this is a Skyrim thread so you'll probably favourite it.

I'm looking getting this or Assassin's Creed? Any recommendations?

Thanks

Currently rolling at level 8 Dark Elf, specialising in destruction and single handed weapons, going to use more heavy armour to become more of a tank though. My only companion died and I lost my horse in a forest somewhere (here boy!!!)

So far, amazing game...but had a few random encounters and struggling. Found a Fort (can't remember name) full of mages and get destroyed as soon as I enter. Also random encounters with a pair of giants...been wearing them down with arrows then knocking them back with my Shout, but if they split up and pincer me I keep dying. Any tactics for these enemies or how I should level my dark elf? Think years of playing as a soldier or vanguar in ME has conditioned me to become a tank, not sure it is the way forward this time?

If you are having trouble in that fort, then come back later once you are better - the game is like life - you have weak people and f**king hard people, so leave that till you are a bit better mate. The giants are tough until you get really high up - i tend t leave them alone, though throughout the game you will have to kill a few - I find it best to leave them alone out of missions as they dont have much good stuff on them anyway

Yeh suppose it is a similar system to Fallout 3 - DeathClaws were solid to begin with, but by the end was almost 1 shot kills to finish them.

Just scared with sooo many locations I will forget to revisit some places I have been.

The game is huge. Literally. Good advice above to leave areas you are struggling in and return when you level up.

Has anyone got the Achievement/Trophy/PC thing for collecting 15 Daedric artefacts? I'm glad I didn't kill that dog and instead took the masque ;) /spoiler.

Got about 5 still to collect, including the Wabbajack.

  Mito Sportiva 135
I read a book called Wabbajack...think I sold it though?!

Speaking of books, once you've read them any point in keeping them? And can you increase your carrying capacity?

You can increase your carrying capacity by increasing your stamina. There are also some armours that increase your carrying capacity, and also certain perks (check the "pickpocket" perks)

The best option for carry capacity is the Steed Stone. It's probably the best Standing Stone in the game, IMO.

I can't remember where about I need to go to speak to a guy in Whiterun to buy a house. I've lost him, lol.

I've also lost some b**ch (Lydia?) who said she was my b**ch and would meet me at her house, which I can't find haha.

The guy you need to speak to is in Dragonreach within Whiterun. When you go to your map, press X to zoom in to city view then you can find your current target (which you can select via the current quests when you press Start).

Ah nice one. I knew he was around Whiterun somewhere.

I went to speak to the Greybeards and some Ice Troll kicked my ass haha.

How you getting on with the Turtle Beach? A few of us will be on BF tonight if you're up for a game? About 10-10.30?

I'll probably be in bed by then expecting chicken pox to strike. Any minute or day now :dapprove:
