Ph1's going up in price?

Is it just me or have all the cheap Ph1's disappeared off the market? Having a look on PH today and it seems that there are Ph2's cheaper than Ph1's!!!

Becoming "vintage" or just not as many being sold?

I'm more than a bit disappointed because i was looking to get a cheap one as soon as a graduated :(

People are holding onto them as they are worthless.
Mine is worth about £2.5k, whats the point in selling it? What would I get of the same performance/running costs for that cash. Yes its a piece of s**t and rattles like you wouldn't believe, the steering wheel is terrible to the touch and the driving position is like sitting on a deck chair. But I enjoy driving it and its a good reliable work horse and its a known quantity, I know whats been done, what needs doing and what is going to need doing, in this economic climate people are holding onto their vehicles, buying a used car is a risk, hence why people are sticking with what they know.

As above realy I think others are catching up. The Ph2 prices are dropping which will then start to force ph1 prices down soon.

For tax reasons its better to get a ph1 as its cheaper quite a few people are realising this and changing for ph1. I can't see the ph1 going up in price yet but i can certainly see them becoming more desirable in the future as they are pretty much the last in the line of hot hatches with no electronic gubbins.

They are hard to find!

Been looking since the PH2 went, and not many about for a 'cheap' price.

But as said, the PH2's are def going down in value, as is everything else at the moment.

Finding a GOOD ph1 for a cheap is not as easy as you might think. They are fast becoming rare and at the end of the day are worth what someone is prepared to pay?

Dont forget, cheap dosent mean good. The ''cheap'' ones were cheap for a reason
Cheap allows you to replace parts like engine mounts and shafts that you would still need to do on an expensive one. No matter how much you pay for a ph1 they are all the same age and all the bushes are perished most the suspension components need replacing and most will need the cambelt replacing for a second time soon. I'm on my second ph1 now my last one i got when it was on 40k this one is on 112k both have needed exactly the same parts replacing.

^ True, but the thing is people often say to people "you'd be better off getting a cheap ph1" or something and then they dont seem very cheap!

Although checking more through PH, they seem to be in the "clio" rather "renault sport clio" and there are some OK priced examples, personally i just think the ph1's front end is much more special, so hopefully i'll find what i'm looking for.

my black one cost me £1400 and my mate got one for 1k just keep looking one will pop up. When you look at them though make sure they have good service history. i would walk away from any that doesn't.

Their not all the same condition tho.

Not everyone wants to buy a car and have to splash out another X amount of hundred quid sorting it out!

Plus not everyones handy with a spanner in which case it means a trip to a garage which equals big bills

Never had a bush replaced on mine yet (112k on the clock owned since new) and theres not wrong with them

Your right with that Chris. Service history is a must. I'm after one in august and i'm dreading trying to find a good one. I'll probably mither you for advice becuase you know your still on the ph1's.

How easy is it to replace the mounts etc? Have you done your own?

I dont understand why people say this about the tax brackets.

Its going up to £270 from the £210 it is the now, £60 is a drop in the ocean as far as hot-hatch owbership goes.

Your right about the Electronics though, i like how raw they are

mines a 2000 x reg and its £185 a year to tax.

Engine mount wise its pretty easy to do with a basic knowledge and the right tools. Changing all the mounts makes such a dramatic change to the way it drives it accelerates better and brakes better. I'm doing all the subframe bushes next and it will be as good as when it left the factory then.

No an astronomical amount of money though is it?

There are plenty of Phase 1's registered after 1 march 2001, the ones that b**ch about the tax hike confuses me

Mines worth more to me then it would be to sell it. I dont think I could get rid of it now anyway. When its no longer my daily driver it will live the remainder of its life as a road going trackcar!

There is a very cheap ph1 in for sale currently. £1,300. I don't know what needs doing on it, if anything mind.

  RS6+ & 40d MSport X5
That's why i went for it, Even needing a new engine, Belts Etc....I'm still quids in.

Buy the time i stop spending on it, It will be up there but i'll know exactly what i've got.
You got a proper bargain Sean! Tried to tell the folk on here but they wouldnt listen! All the other intrest was down south but couldnt get the car transported down!

  53 Clio's & counting
I think the influx(sp) of 'cheap' ph1s has now run dry, i monitor car prices quite closely, and i think imo that the prices have got as low as they will now, and they will slowly go back up in price, yes there will still be the bad ones come along, but generally i think the prices will rise now
