As Jay says the kink in the roof will make it a right off.

Is the sill bent as well Steve?

Nasty. At least you are both ok, it held up well.

Good work Scott, post the pic of the kink in the roof fella, and thanks for the pics you sent me!

Cant quite remember, think it was a bit, coz that was as far as the door would shut!! Pretty sure the B pillar is a bit bent, hence the side airbag going off and the kink in the roof.

bummer, apart from this, and jons little incident, it looked like a good holiday, might have to b available for the next one, and as far as overtaking goes, i agree with scott+zo, after 24hrs, u do tend to run on adrenaline

Just spoke to the insurance company, thier european assessers havent got back to them yet!:( so i still dont know if its a write off or not.

Fingers crossed Steve. Does your policy simply provide you with a replacement Vee, or will you have to muck around sourcing another one?

not for the same price as a Vee though ^^^

not much that much difference from book price though - couple of grand.

Theyre a bit "cosy" inside (i.e passenger and driver quite close!) but theres actually quite a lot of room, probably more than my clio.

Luggage space is a different story, a lot worse than the V6 in that respect!

ok 3 grand then!

base exige is 29,995 (no electric windows, no a.c, no stereo! etc), V6 is 27,000.

In terms of toys you get nothing, obviosuly you get all this stuff with the V6 as standard.

Each to their own though!

you also get to make yourself look like a right idiot each time you try to get in/out of the exige! - something you can avoid with the V6!

For now it will be the cash if its a write-off, but if I do get another quicky it wil either be:

1/ Another vee in either silver or Bronze with the full leather option, or

2/ An Evo VIII FQ330, or

3/ An Alfa 147 with the Autodelta 3.7L engine conversion.

And before people start bangin on about Exiges, VX220s, Suburus, Nissan Z whatevers, Mazda RX-odd looking thingies, i know all of the cars that exsist on the current market and costs, and im fully aware of running cost performance etc...

...But the list of cars above are MY definative top 3, and thats that!!!!

I was very disappointed with the EVO that I drove at Bedford Autodrome, think it was a VI - the new ones may be better. Alfa - Ive had loads of them, great cars, with genuine character. Depreciate quickly, but still a great car.

alfa would be interesting, get the v6 in the ID liquid yellow (think its called that)

Thing is Mike im at a different stage of my life to you, i.e just starting a family etc.. and more than 2 seats would be advantageous!! Having said that the vee pisses over the other 2 on looks. So thats why its still No 1 on my list!

I know what you mean mate, even with mine away at Uni etc therell still be times when Ill wish I had more than 2 seats and some extra luggage space. Still, Ive waited a long time to get a car like this, so BRING IT ON! :D

Well I was gonna say VX220 Turbo but as Steve is insisting on his shortlist of three I have to say get the Evo as its the dogs bolx, the most masculine in my opinion and the most roomy.

My opinion of Evo v V6 is well known but I think think the Evo has a far greater presence when you see it in the carpark. Might attract less attention (a good thing in this day and age) as it is a bit more common but it just looks brutal unlike the Alfa which looks poncy or the Clio which has a hint of girlyness.

Hint of Girlyness...LOL, yeah right...the Clio V6 255 is far better looking than any EVO, they look like, well normal family saloons with a few bits added on.....The Clio V6 on the other hands has far more pressence, but I guess "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"....

Simon.

Toypop, youve never met me, if you had youd probebly realise why any VX220/Elise/Exige type thing is wwwwaaayyyyyy out of the question, I AM A FAT KNACKER!!!!!

The EVO is only there because I know that technically its a great car and its got 4 doors for the price range im looking at, and is not comman as muck. (que the Scooby).

The Alfas there because, IMHO, they are a little different to "the everyday run of the mill Jap-ster", and with the Autodelta 316bhp conversion IMHO would be a bit of a sleeper with 4 seats.

The V6 is there, because in my heart of hearts, its the one I would have again, but im having to think with my head a little more nowadays!!

Anyway, all of this is hypethitical, because my exsisting vee may not be written-off yet, thats still in the hands of the insurance company.

Evos in themselves are a bit more common, but the version Steve mentions is not too common. Sadly they are the victim of those who steal cars to order, and are commonly* on the Police National Computer as being stolen and Tracker alerted.

As well as that knowledge, an acquaintance of mine bought one, and has had a very near miss on the theft front. His keys were stolen from his house, which alerted him to the fact that someone was after his motor. He immediately had the car taken to Mitsubishi to have the immobiliser/alarm/key system changed and alerted the Police. He is now selling the car, because it is too great a theft risk.

When such cars are stolen, 99 times out of 100 they are stolen to order, and when this happens they are put inside a container on the docks and carted abroad almost immediately. Once inside a container they are virtually impossible to trace, even with the Tracker system. Many owners never see their beloved car again.

*commonly as in more commonly than other rare models.

However, have to agree on the Alfa being a bit poncy!

Can someone explain why a 3.7L, 316bhp Alfa has got a poncy image, or am I just getting old and missing something??

Not having a dig at other peoples perceptions of the car, just fail to understand. Is it the looks, image or what, please someone explain!

Lost me, it isnt poncy!

The standard one maybe a tiny bit but not the 3.7!

Alfas are notoriously unreliable. There was a thread I saw on a Lotus board where a guy had one as a company car. Service bills over three years were something like £10,000!!

But surely if the car is under three years old, and i would be looking at buying new, then any faults are covered under warranty??

And i still fail to see the link with this car and a poncy image?

Its got the "rich and dont I just know it image".... "I drive an Alfa Romeo dont you know!"

Plus its ugly as sin... and as stated above very unreliable. A friend of ours owned one, and it spontaneously combusted in a motorway service station car park. He looked out the window and said "Oh look theres a car on fire out there". Little did he know.

However, I must say the 300+bhp one featured on Top Gear does sound fairly awesome.... only trouble being all that power in a front wheel drive car....???!!!!????

So has Steve! pmsl

The alfas these days arent as bad as they were, its a bit like comparing the skodas of today with those of a few years back.

Steve, i do believe i seen this car at the French Car show!! Gutted for you mate! I know the feeling of hearing that bang then getting out to look at it!!! Glad your all ok, amazing how well these wee motors protect isnt it.

Think that roof dent will be a crucial factor in the outcome. Id say its a write off anyway. Im sure you will keep us posted as to your next car - - - - -personally, i went and bought the exact same motor lol, so......shall see your new V6 at the next French car show yea? ;)

Take it easy bud, Rob. :)
