FAO MOD- any good to use as a sticky?

Hi all,

Time after time i see new threads asking how to stop the dash light coming on when changing the steering wheel to an after market one. Or even just asking hat the correct resistors are to use.

It is very simple, all you need is:

2x (thats two) 3.9 ohm resistors. They look like this

The code for these are: M3R9 = 3.9 ohm and you can get them from Maplins (the electric store) they cost around 28p each. REMEMBER you need 2 of them as the steering wheel has 2 airbag conectors.

When conecting them to the airbag conector block double up the end of the resistor. Simply fold the end over, this is to ensure a good conection is achieved as the wire is very thin. I think i actually may have trippled the end of mine.

P.S. im sure you can use between 3.2ohm to 5.2 ohm or something like that but i am advising you to use 3.9ohm, its in the middle of the range and i can gaurantee you they work. They are what i used and 2 years on the dash lights are still never to be seen.

Hopefully this will help you guys and also reduce unecesary threads.

Thanks

Austin

Sorry to ask, but my supplier has the following resistors with 3,9 Ohm:

11 Watt 3,9 Ohm
5 Watt 3,9 Ohm
0.25 Watt 3,9 Ohm

Which one should I get? Guys at an Alfa forum are talking about 0,5 Watt. Link: Alfa Link
How specific do you have to get the resistors?

Thanks :)

Thanks. But I was more looking for an answer concering how many Watts they should be. I think I found an answer: 0,6 watts.

Went to Maplins yesterday in Coventry and they stated they no longer supply these. Has anyone got any spare or can point me in the right direction to get some i also need 4x 3.3 ohm resistors for the seat plugs. Turning into a real mission trying to get this sorted.

Might just be worth a little note in this thread that as of March 2013 missing airbags and malfunctioning warning lights are now a fail for MoT, this also includes any ABS, ESP, ESC or other driving 'aids'.
1. An airbag obviously missing or defective.
Note: A passenger airbag that has been switched off is not a Reason for Rejection.
2. A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp:
. inoperative
. indicating a system malfunction.

Obviously a missing passenger air bag is imposible for them to spot, but a drivers one isnt as hard to 'pretend' its there.

So I can't fit a aftermarket steering wheel anymore unless I swap for stock come mother time?. Then what's the point? And why take an airbag from a stock wheel? That just sounds daft because it's still looks so so and now it's not as safe.

If your airbag light comes on and stays in then its a fail, if the light doesn't come on at all then its an advisory on the mot, this only applies to airbag system though and not all warning lights.

No reason why you can't keep aftermarket wheel on, just keep in mind what I've written above

Fit an aftermarket wheel, then take the car to someone with CLiP (Renault, a specialist) and pay them £25 to disable the steering wheel airbag.
All done proper, no pikey resistors, mot will be no issue.

Bosh.

No I read that I will be made illegal to REMOVE safety equipment/ie airbags then why bother taking the original off. And why remove an airbag from a steering wheel but still use said wheel? It makes no sense to remove a safety feature from it and leave it on?

Hello,

A quick question. Does this resistor pair work on 197s too or just earlier models?
Also does anyone know which resistors to use if you want to swap seats for ones without side airbags?
Thanks

Any idea how to connect resistors to the mk3 200 standard seats? I replaced with sparco.. cheers
