Look nice but very basic trim. No climate, ABS and leather.... Depends is you want creature comforts or not. Some worship it like it's 10x better than any other 1*2....

The only thing I miss on my Cup is Climate as I had it on my Dynamique. Not even bothered that I've got bog standard interior or lack of auto headlights/windscreen wipers.

Some people will probably mention the lack of xenons too, but not ever having them myself I can't judge, plus I don't have to worry about the leaky washer jets they sometimes get.

I don't understand the Xenon argument myself either. The normal lights light up the road fantastically.

I suppose it all comes down to what car you are coming from into the Cup. For me coming from a 1997 Fiesta 1.25 I was just happy the fans weren't stuck blowing out hot air constantly!

Things to look out for when buying are the steering wheel grips wearing out, check the front splitter is on (expensive to replace), check the cambelt has been done (think it's 5 years or 60000 miles), the speedo sensors like to fail so if you're test driving it and the needle starts to wobble then it will eventually fail. The Cup wheels (Turinis) suffer from corrosion and I've seen some that are very bubbly and nasty.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

i cant think of any problems the cup has that no other 1*2's have inless like fred said you cant actually drive, i persoanlly love the rawness keeps you on your toes!

IMO a clio sport is a drivers car, to be driven properly, why would you need criuise contol, head light washers etc? or traction control that is just gonna inevitably slow you down and compromise handling. Some people may argue that losing abs in the cup was a mistake but i can honestly say ive never had a problem with breaking just dont embed your foot into the pedal and you wont have a problem, also having had abs in all my previous cars i can safely say i dont miss it or even that im arsed about having it again PUMP THE PEDAL if you lock up simple really.

as said above they don't suffer from anything that other 1*2 don't suffer from. engine and exhaust mounts are too weak but upgrades are available. bad point for me is that i don't find the seats very comfortable, there's no real back support in the seats at all. you can retrofit the standard half leather seats (assume they must be more comfortable) from the other 1*2's. the standard exhaust will rust, but again the same for the rest of the range.

cheers for all the info been a great help my minds madeup now il go for the cup i like a drivers car iv tamed the pulsar countless civics a sierra saphire a 106 gti and not one crash yet:) hpoe iv not just tempted fate haha so sounds like my kind of car im not fussed about xeons or the creature comforts i buy a car to drive it not to play with its gadgets i have noticed that alot of them are car c, d write-offs although im not too fussed asbout that either as long as its bee repaired to a high standard on to the next question whats a good price range and what milage the engines and boxes good for?

if the engines are serviced well through out they should last a long time,

The gearboxes however are the weakest part of the car, when on a test drive, make sure the gear change is smooth with no crunching, when in second gear give it some throttle and have a look how much the gear stick moves, if it moves alot the dog done gearbox mount will be worn badly, if the car jumps out of gear at anytime walk away!

Drive any car like a mong and you'll bin it.

LOL, indeed.

The Cup is just a car like any other. It doesn't make mistakes, the driver does.

Pro's - rewarding.

Cons - not many IMO. The brakes are not that strong and they are getting older now though, so might need some cash thrown their way.

I think for me if you've driven any unassisted cars in the past then you'll be fine.

This 172 I have now is the first car I've had with ABS (well my valver had it but it never worked!)

I leant to drive and owned all non abs cars, infact I can't ever recall triggering the abs on the 172 apart from when it has a strop in snow!

Out of the Mk2 range the only other one i'd have is a Trophy. I'm on my second Cup now, having one in 2004. Had that for 3 years i then when to a 182, but somehow it just never hit the spot.? Xenons on MK2's are proper overrated also, so thats no biggie. I actually thought the halogens with some Osram night breakers were better tbh!. When i downgraded form my 197 last year i could have had a phase 2 172, or a scabby 182, but got another cup, for me they drive/respond better. Mine runs Billsein B14 Coilovers decat, matched inlets and a remap, and it feels pretty brutal tbh! Dont go wasting £££ on the engine, not worth it imo, they are good out the box.. For a DECENT cup, ie fsh low mileage, belts done, and straight i'd be looking £3800+ tbh. Anything below 3.5 wont imo be that tidy tbh
