is this safe? i thought not but just seen a pic of yozzas v6 on 4 axles? it wud b very handy for me in future if this was afe 2 work under? also where is the best place 2 put axle stands on a mk1|? cheers

Its fine stick somehting else under I use sleepers at home or keep the jacks in place at the same time.

As for where to jack

This picture should give you an idea.
Jack on the bit in red if your colour blind I've arrowed it in yellow as well. Don't jack and further forwards (marked in light blue) as thi is where the chassic bends back up and the jack coul come off.
Have a look under the front of the car by where the hinger are and you'll see where the picture shows. You could use the sill at the front but make sure you have a bar etc so you spread the weight out more else you will find yourself bending the sills.

At the back this picture should give you an idea. You can jack on either of the two red bits or if you can jack on the sill (shown as the red line) since the cars so light at the back you can use the sill.

safe to do, i do it all the time.

Note don;t be a pillock and jack 1 corner fully up then stand it, then the next corner and so on, do the front a click/pin hole at a time on both sides, then the same with the rear.

Yeah I was reading the instuctions on some axel stands once when i helped write some risk assessments. They said specifically that you should only use two at a time.

Its a load of rubbish really, just to cover their backs. Just keep an eye on all the stands when you raise or lower the car and then when you have it on all 4 give the car a shake to check that its sturdy (maybe leave the jack in place too)
