Clios are noisy from start to finish mate. It all depends on what noise?

Is it a tapping noise? An inducting noise?

Check belt history - HAS to be done otherwise that's an extra £400. Make sure it's done by a specialist, not an everyday garage.

Definitely. Belts cost me nearer 700 too tbh (just being honest) with the dephaser and waterpump :( lol.

  330i. E30 Touring.
If the noise is a rattle that goes away when you blip the throttle then it's the dephaser pulley, and it'll cost £5-600 to do properly as it's a cambelt off job.

Yes the noise went away wen I blipped the throttle and it was from the left hand side of the engine bay

Sounds definitely like dephaser pulley then - when were the belts done? Sounds like it wasn't done during, or the belts weren't done at all.

You could try and knock him down, and get them done at a specialist yourself, that way you know it's A-ok. (assuming the rest of the car was ok).

Sorry taken a while to reply, on the service book they were done at 50k and the car was on 89k now but that was bac in 2011 I no they say every 72k or 5 yrs is this write I have rang up about 15 cars and almost every one seems to say they had this or that done but have no receipts for it or they have lost them or the previous owner lost them in a house move but any 1 can say they had it done obv for piece of mind I want the proff otherwise its a £500 plus bill I'm looking at having to have done I'm sure 1 will come up, there is lots of silver ones out there and black but my first choice is racing blue then inferno orange or arctic blue just keep looking coz every car I've had before I allways keep every receipt and regular service with a stamp , I went to the French car show at castle coombe and there wasn't one clio that I saw for sale which shocked me out of all that was there , thank u for your help Ben

Everyone always loses the receipt due to a 'house move'. What a retarded statement.

Similar to "its got a 45" scratch along the bonnet but it wasn't me, previous owner done it"

What the f**k are these people all about!

Would it be wise not to drive a sport once the dephaser starts making a noise?
Mines just started. Belts are due at the end of the year. But will get them done soon anyway :)
Cheers in advance. :) sorry for jumping on this thread :)

If it's just started you've still got years of driving it to go! But get it changed ASAP

When people value a Clio at £1k yet a dephaser pulley swap costs half that with breakers selling for £400 of course people are going to lie .

I don't condone it but the low value is never going to help maintenance. TBH IME it doesn't really help a car below £3k from the sheds of various cars I saw when car hunting a few months ago.
