Racelogic traction control

Since installing an OMEX ecu I have had no traction control on my 182. This hasnt been a problem really (I havent crashed yet anyway) but on the wet roads this morning I think it may have been a benefit. Being heavy footed out of a roundabout onto the industrial estate where I work nearly ended in tears.

Maybe its lazy to rely on electronics or maybe I should save up and get an LSD fitted?

What do people think of this sort of setup on a powerful FWD car?

you are lucky enough to have had traction control i've never had it. i think you just need to know when to put your foot down ie not foot to the floor on a wet roundabout even though it is fun lol

The system is very good without being OTT.

Its not the same as the intrusive renault system (which must have been programmed by mary whitehouse)

Ive driven a few elise's fitted with it and its quite useable.
Personally i wouldnt say its purely a safety system more of a performance enhancement.

Especially with the digital adjuster.

i think people rely too much on electronics to help them drive rather than using their inititive and understanding what the car is doing. i suppose its just down to what you are used to.

Thats how they describe it on the website. Nice to have that backed by some personal experience. :D

Maybe, but for the average driver something like this would make you faster and safer in the wet.

geez, given how rediculously late the traction control comes in when im flying around the track you guys must drive like looneys to engague it on the road.......course it could be that you guys actualy still get rain over there :(

Only time I've ever needed the traction control was in the snow.. and it didn't want to let the car go forward up a hill so I turned it off anyway :p

Cheaper to re evaluate how you drive, might save yourself wear and tear to the car too :p

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
wouldnt bother m8, take yourself out on some favourite roads in the wet, 5am time on a sunday when its quiet & push it a bit harder. or an empty car park, get the feel of it on the limits. a trackday in the wet is best tho, push it further in a safer situation. mines 218bhp & weighs not a lot, once you find to control your foot & the back end in the wet its defo rewarding.

seems like a lot of money for pulling out of a junction in the rain,i havnt had it in my car since cable conversion and has never bothered me,when i drove the megane 230 at bedford last week though i couldnt believe the difference from having the traction on to having it off

No offence intended, but I think this sort of thing can make you a worse driver.

In the good old days, you bought a fast car, and you either crashed and died, or learned how to control it.

Now, you can just mash the pedal come what may.

It makes more sense to get an lsd for improved grip.

The point has already been made that this is not the Renault system and it is more advanced in being able to program the amount of slip the system allows before it intervenes also things like full throttle gear shift and launch control :D.

I have had no TC in my car for 18 months it has cable throttle so is more sensitive then FBW and has 200bhp, soon to be 220bhp. So yes its not a 12000bhp supra but it is a powerful FWD car with the problems that it brings ie power understeer. I am not an inexperienced 17 year old either and have been driving performance hot hatchbacks for 12 years (I learnt the meaning of lift off oversteer in a 205gti that I got when I was 18;) )

I dont think anyone on this forum can claim to be infallible when driving there cars, and hopefully the more experienced drivers are even more concious of driving on the cars limits especially on the road.

Mark I didnt want it because it would allow me to press my foot to the floor everywhere without fear of a crash that would be boring and stupid. But for the safety net of being able to say right I can push but if I reach the limits of my skill (not hard) I have a backup. You still have to drive the car round corners and on the brakes its only going to be helpful in the wet when accellerating in first and second.

I am not trying to justify buying the system but do question the way people dismiss TC as a system used by people who cant drive. How many forms of top motorsport use TC to enhance there lap times?

People dismiss the Racelogic TC based on other "safety" systems they have used in other cars. Personally i would look anything that can and will improve my car's performance.

But i dont think this is an alternative to an LSD.

The racelogic system AND and lsd would be pretty cool.

The other idea is to spend the money on driver training courses...which dont come with a turn your ego down dial.
