Rear exhaust mount - dam bolts!

  "Navy" N17 TWO
Nightmare trying to get the 3 bolts out, even with an impact gun they just kept turning, no joy at all
Can't see how to get access around the top of the mount :(

Anyone know of a soloution for this, as part of the mount has cracked and I intend getting it sorted while I'm off work

Cheers

If I remember right, the mount the bracket bolts onto is held onto the car by 4 bolts so try taking that off instead.

I had this on mine, it's a f*cking nightmare tbh.

They're held in place by a round nut that's welded to the chassis, when the weld breaks the round nut just spins,
I had to go to a garage and put it on a lift to get enough access, it still took two large blokes with a breaker bar
and some monster mole grips to get it off, I watched them do it and they struggled like f*ck for 15 minutes to get it to loosen.

I got one of the 3 bolts out of the bracket, the other 2 were going nowhere, and wouldn't even fully tighten up again :(

Looks like a new mount and new bolts for this thing then!
Just after looking up the Prima racing mount - to hell with that! lol

What's wrong with the Prima mount?

I bought a brand new mount from ECP, it was f*cked within a week,
Prima is the only way to go imo, shame my credit card's maxed out or i'd have one on there now. :dapprove:

Unless you do the Powerflex/ziptie bodge of course.

Cant you pull the actual bracket down onto the shoulder of the spinning bolt it to create resitence to get it to turn out?

Use the bracket as a 'lever' as it were?

The reason I was trying to get it off was to put a powerflex bush into it lol instead of old sockets & cable ties
- now that part of the bracket has broken and all corroded I need a new one anyway.

My problem now is getting the bolts out to remove it from the car

If it's corroded the round nut thing might be rusted on,
you may have no option but to saw them off and replace the bolts.

If you need a new mount then ECP is the place to go,
I think they're £12 quid, they're utter sh*te but if you're cutting the rubber out then it won't matter.

No worries Danny, I get what you mean about putting weight on the bracket to turn the bolts
I will keep that in mind when I get another mount

Sorted! :)

Yeah all 3 captive nuts on the inside of the chassis-leg broke their welds :(

Had to grip the 2 inner ones under the heatshield and crack them out with the impact gun & hacksaw the outer bolt out.

Replaced with 3 new M8 bolts and large washers either side of the mount.
All topped off with a spray o white grease to protect it.

The old mount crumbled to bits!!

In the long run it's probably a god send that the welds broke on the nuts . Looks a much sturdier job now , better than what Renault originally did :) It's unbelievable just how weak the original rubbers are and the state they are in when you take them off , what a crap design . Did line up the exhaust then mark the hole in the bush or drill the hole first in the same place as the original hole would have been ? I'm thinking of holding the exhaust up , marking the bush where i want the exhaust then drilling the bush . That's when i get round to doing it .

Thats how i did it on my 182, jacked the exhaust up and then marked it on the rubber.

I had this issue on my old 172 and ended up replacing a nut&bolt, interestingly on the 182 they seem to have dropped the idea of welding the nut to the metalwork which made the job a little easier
