Red16 new project !!

as seen in the F7R problem thread but didnt want to hijack the thread...

meanwhile ill put a pic of my project on here

http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/file.php?image=1054497766__turbo_today_02.jpg

Wow!! you have got to expand upon this? what is the spec of this if you are willing to say? where are you sourcing manifolds etc? what about managment and the internals? im amazed someone is trying this on thier own (as it seems) well done and i would love to hear more details. from memory in comparison to Nicks pics it looks like a larger turbo mounted higher up?

Bens got balls (and money).....but ill leave him to gloat..lol

Must applaud it, quality aint to shabby!

But take care of yer bulkhead when you take the engine in and out lol......i can see rust forming then one day you stamp on teh brakes then kick the engine as the pedals go through the bulkehead lol......not good in a turbo

Basically its a Clio Williams engine with a stage 3 hybrid t3 turbo, custom fabricated manifold (by me),

http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/file.php?image=1054508639__turbo_today_01.jpg

5ltr intercooler, 10 row oil cooler, renault 21 turbo ecu n loom, n a few bits of pipe etc ;)

Not sure what compression ratio im going for yet, but its gonna be around 7.5:1 8:1 with a set of low comp pistons from JE in america, and some good strong rods n bolts to match.

Think ill get my engine bay painted when the engines out this time Ben, keep tat rust at bay, and keep the bay looking smart.

Heh Looks good mate!

You have some bollox the size of King Kong!

BenR message me you b*****d. Am off in 4 hours!!

  BMW 320d Sport

Nice work Ben, now I know where youve been hiding for the last year! Whens it gonna be finished mate?

I can see youve got the T3 up the top there with the compressor housing on the drivers side, how are you going to hook up the intercooler from there? I can just about see a big bore pipe near the PS tank. So maybe the filter cone in the scuttle panel where the ECU lives, hoooked up through a short tract to the compressor inlet, then the IC pipework coming from under the turbo, up and over the belt side of the engine, down into the front to the IC, then up and round into the TB? Am I close?

looks intresting if you need sum big end bolts or bailey parts,or even sum lairey cams let me know ill be able to source them for you,iam sure i can help. bondy 07985373913

that big bore pipe is actually one leg of my manifold, its just not welded on yet, it was lying next to the ps tank as we were trying all the bits for size. Not sure when its gonna be finished yet nick, as soon as possible im hoping, dead excited!!!!! got a few ideas at the moment about pipe routes etc, but not 100 sure on the routes yet, will let ya know!

What about cutting the bonnet and going for a top mounted IC like a Scooby or GTi-R? That would save a lot of hassle getting the plumbing round to the front. But you get the interwarmer effect if youre not careful. I cant wait to see how it comes along anyway Ben, keep up the good work mate. BTW you comign to York at the end of July?

cant be so bad nissan and suburu cant be wrong short inlet tracts equall less lag.:) by the way red 16v i may well av a set of low comp pistons leave it with me ill do sum searching for you ok mate. bondy

dont fancy trying to mount an intercooler on top of the engine, absolutely no room and the heat soak would be terrible i think, with the engine bay being so cramped and hot!

doubt ill be at york nick at the end of july as im goin on holiday then, so unless it falls through i wont be going!

what compression ratio u running nick?

and what boost?

  BMW 320d Sport

7.5:1 compression, running 15 pounds of boost. Thats about the limit of the injectors capabilities and also just over the limit of my old fuel pump, needs more flow rate. Does about 10-15 mpg if you rag it everywhere!

cheers nick, u know the manufacturer and part number of your injectors?

at what RPM is your turbo producing full boost? (how long does it take to wind up i meant by that)

  BMW 320d Sport

Ill have a look on the weekend. Not sure what the codes are though. The turbo starts to really blow at around 3000 rpm and by 4000 its pushing full boost. In the top half of the revs it only takes half a second to see full boost showing on the clock. Its a T28/T3 hybrid. Has no problem holding at 15psi, occasionally itll overboost by half a pound but not much more than that.

its not running yet craggy mate, lol

i take it theyre bosch injectors nick? any code you could find would be helpful, as im still trying to source some, need to find a injector dealer to get em i think. sounds like it spins up with very little lag, nice on a road car!!

  FRST and 106 GTi

wait a minute. Im lost in here. On the second picture you can see that there is some piping of the exhaust manifold that does not go into the turbo. Its suposed to be like that? hum...

Dont know if this has been already posted. Im in a hurry now.. Ill read it latter. :)

cheers nick, but im 99% sure i wont be there, will be lata on in the year tho! gotta meet up n have a chat sumtime.

Butre, the pics above were only at the start of the manifold fabrication, its come on a bit since then, and has all 4 branches welded together. only had it like that so i could see if it fit on the engine ok, be4 doing anymore work on it
