refitting standard steering wheel - straightforward or not ?

  Nissan 350Z
My 172 currently has a tatty OMP steering wheel.

Was toying with the idea of an aftermarket one but it seems there is a chance it will Cause me problems come MOT time.

Is it going to be expensive and difficult to source a standard wheel and airbag and fit it? What will I need to buy? Are there any guides? Seems not many go back to a standard wheel (yes I've searched).

Thanks in advance.

I went back to standard wheel it's just the reverse of fitting an aftermarket wheel.... Just hope the person who fitted the wheel did a tidy job with the resistors and no chopping off plugs !!!!

I'll have to see I guess - if they've chopped the plugs off though, I think that has pretty much made up my mind for me - I'll just go for another aftermarket one (leather this time).

I'll have a look at lunchtime, as the centre bit of the wheel comes off. I'll post some pics.

Got my eye on this

and this

Or I could just get this and get it retrimmed?

Will I need anything else should I decide to go back to standard?

I'm still in two minds, I'd still quite like something like a Momo Race :)

Don't go back to a standard wheel you'll feel like you're driving a double decker bus in comparison to the OMP.

Had a look at the wires and I assume this looks OK, as in nothing missing? I guess the orange one is the airbag and they never bothered with the horn (wasn't connected to anything).

So I'm guessing any phase 1 steering wheel will fit and its simply a case of remove wheel, remove boss, reattach wheel, connect and reattach airbag (with battery disconnected) ?

There are some pretty cheap wheels and airbags on eBay if it doesnt have to be specific to a 172 and they don't look much different really?
