Might be useful to check related fuses mate. If you haven't got a multimeter, try swapping ones of similar ratings over, see if you lose/gain circuits.

Sounds positive. You should have spare fuses on your fuse box cover, try swapping one in. If you need any spare I've got a box full.

On the third brake light. Going off all the electrical tape I wasn't sure if it was dodgy

Keys were out of ignition iirc. Tape looked to just be holding the wires together, around the connectors.

Not standard i dont think, can't remember what mine was now, but im sure it was both wires going into a single connector rather than individual ones. Wonder if someones had a butcher. Think the wirings often different from cup spoilers to normal spoilers so they may have had to cut and solder to get it fitted. I'd remove all the tape and get a better look mate.

I went from a non cup spoiler to cup spoiler on mine and the wiring went straight from the boot lid, under the black grommet thingy, to the spoiler with no connector in between.

Mine is the white plug in the back of the brake light, from that is the orange and black wire,through the spoiler and connects to wires under the tape.. no idea why, but makes sense for ease of removal etc.

The connectors that plug into the above? Had tape around the whole connection.

The OE connection is known for being poor, so chances are someone has cut it off and used the "bullet" connectors shown in your pic. No problem if they are done properly and water tight, but as you blew the fuse, maybe they aren't perfect and shorted.

Regardless it's done now.

Just one question... why remove the spoiler... ?
