It’s been awhile, was planning on rebuilding the whole engine over winter but all the track days have took a heavy toll on the 5.

Got it up on axle stands and found the front engine mount bracket had snapped, the rear vibra-technic mount had snapped, worn hole on the alternator, all the brake calipers were fucked, worn ball joints and the ignition leads were ready for the bin.

There were also hundreds of dings on the radiator, coolant leaks from some of the hoses and oil leaks galore.

Used AUTODOC for the first time to get the front calipers and carriers… wouldn’t use them again. The CL 5+ pads are still in good nick after 4 trackdays.

Changed the 350lbs springs to 375lbs. Was going to recon the front struts but I’ve had to spend money elsewhere. Will probably swap to GAZ Golds at a later date

Still budgeted for a head rebuild, Frogjam was cheapest for valves, guides and head seal kit and Kam Racing was the only place that was selling 197/200 valve springs.

Had a laugh removing my old head, snapped a head bolt

Luckily Danny had a spare head and had it fully reconditioned.

Fitted the head and timed up. Tapped the holes for stud and nut conversion for coil on plug.

Replaced the sump gasket in situ 🫠 never again!!

Bought new hoses, radiator and fittings. Have to chop up Clio 172 hoses quite a bit to make them fit but works well.

Fitted the ITB’s and pms manifold. This is more of a nightmare now the new engines mounts have zero movement.

Looks loads neater with pencil coils. Had issues with connecting my laptop to the ecu… I’ve never connected it before and didn’t realise it needed a file installing aswell as the Gen90 tuner to work.

Found the “00X84” Gin file hidden in a file which was also hidden in a file on my dongle (good’ol KTEC) but got it working

Reset my TPS and started it up. Had a NOS bonnet in my loft for years and finally got my mate to paint it.

Looks loads better, just makes the rest of the car look like a scrapper 😂 cut some holes in the bumper too
